My Love Affair with Beachbody

P90X, Insanity, 21 Day Fix-- how I got started and why I am hooked.

My Love Affair with Beachbody

Confession: I am that weirdo that doesn't sleep and sits up at 3am watching infomercials while the Game Show Network takes its evening snooze. A couple years ago, tub of icecream in hand, I watched a 30 minute segment on Beachbody's Insanity, a super intense workout program with a precise schedule to follow to "transform your body in 60 days."

Now I was a little skeptical, but being the impulse buyer that I am, I ordered it anyway. I followed the program perfectly for about 45 days and by then had reached my goal (25 pounds lost) and called it quits. I thought I could stop working out and keep my perfectly toned, muscular body. Obviously, that didn't work, DUH!

After about 6 months of eating pizza, going out for Margarita Monday's.. and Wednesday's... and the occasional Thursday's too, all of my hard work was gone. I started going to the gym a few times a week when I had some free time, worked out with a trainer when the gym didn't work, and eventually gave into the fact that I was "too far gone" to get my body back. After pouring countless dollars into the gym and trainers, I realized one thing: nothing else I've done has produced the results that I got when I was a Beachbody member.

Now, it's 2014 and I just graduated college. It's no longer socially acceptable to binge watch Netflix with a family size portion of lasagna and a 6 pack of Blue Moon. Something had to change. Luckily, I came to this realization at the same time my friend, Amber, posted about a new Beachbody Challenge, the 21 Day Fix. Immediately, I remembered my forgotten love of these programs and thought I'd give it a try, and why not start up Insanity on the side, too?

So where am I now? I'm on Day 15 of 21 and have lost 12 pounds and 6.5 inches overall. I have had amazing success in such a short period of time, and can only imagine how much better I will feel after I reach my ultimate goal of losing 20% of my weight in 60 days! Today I'm at 6.9% lost and I'm feeling great!

Because of my results so far, I have decided to take on a new challenge- that of becoming a Beachbody Coach! This doesn't mean that I'm in better shape than everyone else, or that I've conquered my goals and I'm the poster girl for perfect health. What this means is that I've found a way to get my body back when I thought there was no hope. I know what these programs are capable of doing and I want to be a role model for others to take back control of their health, too!

After my results with this first challenge, I've decided to start a challenge of my own. I picked a Beachbody program that I think has the chance of producing the best results for many body types. Whether you want to lose weight or tone up, the program gives you the workouts and resources to achieve your own goals. On September 1st, I'm starting the Focus T25 Challenge and encourage anyone who wants to change their life to join me!

Find me on Facebook if you're ready to take the next step to getting back your body, too!

This is the third in a series of my weight loss journey. Feel free to read my first two articles, "I Can't" and "How I Lost 7 Pounds in 7 Days," and follow my progress here every Monday.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
