My First Week Home From College

As the sun starts to set on one chapter, another one is just beginning.

My First Week Home From College
Megan Smith

It is the first official week that I have been home from school. It has been almost as big of a transition as the one I made leaving for school. We filled my parent’s SUV as full as it could possibly be and started the two-hour trek back home.

After getting home and unloading everything, I began to wonder how I had all my things in the house in the first place. I still have things scattered around my house in boxes and clothes sitting on my bedroom floor.

While it is a change from being at school, it was so nice to be able to sleep in my own bed and use my own shower again. It was nice not needing to worry about doing my own laundry, thanks, Mom. I was also able to have a meal that wasn't chicken strips or pizza. One of the nicest things about being home is being able to see my friends and family here.

Before coming home for the summer, I hadn't seen my sister since Easter and had only seen my parent's once since then. I do have to get in a better habit of letting my parents know when I will be home. At school, I can spend as much time out as I want, but at home, my parents like to have a little better idea of when I will be home. My sister and I have always shared a room, so when I left for school it was weird sharing a room with someone else. It is great being able to be back home with her. While I could text, call, and video call my parents and sister, I could not do those things to communicate with my cat. It was wonderful being able to come home and scoop him up and cuddle him.

While I miss my friends from school, I really enjoy seeing my friends from home. This is the first time I have been gone for such a long period of time. My family is very close and going for weeks or months without seeing them is very odd. It is also the first time since many of my friends and I have gone to different schools. Two of my closest friends and I have been in school together since we were in elementary school. It is weird going from seeing them almost every day to not being able to see them very often due to going to different schools or work schedules. It is always nice to have people at home that you can come back to knowing that it will be like you never left in the first place.

For now, I am able to sleep in and spend my days lounging around. The main concern of my days has been looking for a job while I am home over the summer. The search continues for now, but hopefully, soon I will be working. For now, it will continue to be lounging around the house, catching up with friends and starting to work on an online class for school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
