Bikram yoga. 105 degrees. 40% humidity. 90 minutes. Let’s do this.

1. Walks into room: it isn't even that hot!

2. Why are there so many mirrors in here?

3. These girls are basically wearing bikinis lol.

4. Where should I lay my mat?

5. Walks to back corner: I should be safe here.

6. Sits on mat: okay it is pretty hot in here.

7. Class begins: Wait where’s the soothing music?

8. And why are the bright lights still on?

9. I’m not feelin’ these vibes.

10. Wow I’m already so sweaty!

11. Oh so is everyone else…that’s good.

12. Maybe I should have worn a bikini too!

13. Lol JK I don’t even own a bikini.

14. Wow it’s like REALLY hot.

15. Teacher tells us to keep our eyes open: what…?

16. This is really different than normal yoga.

17. I hate this.

18. Takes deep breath: ugh that makes it worse!

19. I am literally dripping sweat right now.

20. How is my shirt already soaking wet?

21. Maybe I shouldn’t have worn grey

22. Takes sip of water: ahhh water has never tasted this good.

23. How much longer is this class?

24. This is probably what hell is like.

25. Ugh I’m not as flexible as I used to be.

26. I can’t do this.

27. Child’s pose! Take a break, don’t push yourself too much.

28. Sits back into child’s pose: OMG I’m way too sweaty for this.

29. This isn’t relaxing AT ALL.

30. Lays down on mat, looks around: everyone else is so bendy!

31. I should probably get back up.

32. But I literally can’t move right now.

33. They probably think I’m lazy.

34. I don’t even care.

35. Ya know what? I’m HERE.

36. I stepped out of my comfort zone, told my insecurities to screw themselves and CAME.

37. And I’m still here! I didn’t run away when it got hard and uncomfortable.

38. I’m sitting with the pain and the heat and the sweat.

39. Dang… I’m kind of a bada**

40. I’m so proud of myself!

41. I can TOTALLY do this.

42. Gets up and finishes class: this is amazing!

43. Holy guacamole it’s hot in here.

44. Teacher announces savasana (aka nap time): finally!

45. Lights turn off, teacher says we can stay and rest as long as we want: HA! Good joke lady.

46. I’m outie.

47. Teacher compliments my practice on my way out: I know, right?

48. I did it. I survived. I did my best. I took care of myself.

49. Dang it feels good to be a gangsta!

50. Namaste y’all

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
