My Favorite Things To Do In Lake City Part Two
J. Stephen Conn

Based on suggestions from readers like you, and my own experiences living in Lake City, MN, I've made a second list of things to do! If you didn't read part one, you can find it here. These are perfect if you call Lake City home or if you're just here for the weekend. I'll be picking up where we left off with, at number seven. This time, these are all edible!

7. Treats and Treasures

Treats and Treasures literally has everything you would want in a candy shop, and more! Featuring homemade fudge, truffles and other chocolate goods, as well as other candies, clothing, and even bakeware. They're open everyday from 10:00 to 5:30, so be sure to go back day after day to try a new fudge! Some favorites include mint, peanut butter and raspberry pecan. Check out their website here.

8. Marien's Deli

Marien's, owned by the Marien family of Lake City, is a local favorite. You have to try their scotch-a-roos or another bar! They have sandwiches and a selection of meats, cheeses, and pasta salads. If you haven't, try getting their garlic pesto mayo on your favorite sub! A family favorite is the meatball sub. They've also been around for generations, so you know it's good.

9. Apps and Desserts at Nosh

Although their menu is always changing to keep the freshest ingredients in rotation, Nosh Restaurant & Bar always has delicious appetizers and desserts. My personal favorites to start off are the garlic shrimp and roasted exotic mushrooms. These are both large enough to share! Since it's a pricier place, I'd recommend skipping dinner and going straight to dessert. Their bourbon chocolate ice cream has been a favorite of mine for 10+ years.

10. Dinner at Cheung's Garden Restaurant

Cheung's Chinese food is my favorite place in town for Chinese! All their ingredients are super fresh and prepared to order. Many of the dishes feature colorful components. Find more information here.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
