As I get closer to graduating I have been attempting to discover more of Birmingham, Alabama. There is so much to do that I didn't even know existed and of course the classic activities everyone loves to do. I have created a list of the best activities in the greater Birmingham area to experience before you graduate or for anyone at all.

1. Railroad Park

Railroad Park is something most people have experienced but I think it's one of the best ways to get a true feel of Birmingham. There is always something to whether you decide to have a picnic or attend one of many festivals going on. It's also a great place to bring a dog, there are tons of other animals for them to interact with.

2. Pepper Place

Pepper Place has to be one of my favorite parts of downtown. My family loves to go together on summer Saturday mornings and pick up fresh produce. This is another great place to bring dogs or to simply see other animals that might be there. If you have been I'm sure you've experienced the famous Piper and Leaf tea, which comes in a keepsake mason jar. My favorite part is the fresh food.

3. Top of the World

In the top of my "lookout spots" list is the Top of The World in the Mountainbrook area. At night all of Birmingham is visible and the spot sits in a resident's back yard! It is gated off but the owners don't might visitors coming to see the view.

4. Pizitz Food Market

This indoor hall is not your average food court. It has everything from Japanese and Hawaiian "poke" to a restaurant devoted strictly to waffles. With indoor and courtyard seating, the hall is soon adding a Warby Parker to the mix.

5. The Birmingham Mural Project

One of my favorite parts of downtown is the collection of murals. There is a great variety from the "It's Nice To Have You in Birmingham" to the Iron City mural.

6. Saturn Birmingham

Saturn host many events from concerts to yoga classes. This venue is actually space themed and hosts a coffee shop and bar. My favorite concert I've ever attended was here and the staff was more than welcoming.

7. The City Federal Building

Perhaps my most favorite part of BHAM is the City Federal Building, or more specifically the parking garage beside it. It gives the best views in Birmingham and is absolutely free. The actual City Federal is closed to the public but it's on my bucket list to make it to the top one day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
