Growing up, fashion has alway evaded me. When I was younger, my mom dressed me everyday. She would pick out every outfit, every day until I got to about 2nd grade. And I must say, I looked adorable, except for the haircut. I was always done up in a dress, tights and adorable shoes. I was basically a Gymboree billboard. Hard plastic barrettes in my hair were also a daily accessory. I was no stranger to skirts and skorts (even at soccer) until some kid in my class made fun of them. Then I never wore one again (to this day). After that I insisted on choosing my own clothes. That's when a parent light-heartedly nicknamed me "the Easter Egg" because my of my severely mismatched clothing. It is safe to say that my style has shifted and changed since then. I like to think that I have my style pretty well planned out and that I look presentable at least 6 out of the 7 days of the week. Fashion has recently become important to me because of the impression that it makes. During my Junior/Senior year my fashion sense made a huge positive turn as I started working at Marshalls Department Store (T.J. Maxx). These people listed below have influenced my style over the years, and I've included a bit on how.
1. Harry Styles
Harry Styles has been a men's fashion icon ever since he came into fame in 2010, more specifically in London at that time. Now, I understand that he is involved in men's fashion but I have taken many great tips from him, including: hats are never a bad idea, Chelsea boots are a necessity for your closet, neck scarfs are also amazing, and to never be afraid of pattern. In recent years, Harry has become accustomed to Gucci suits, which, I can't afford to even say the name Gucci at this point, but dang does he look good in them.
2. Kayne West
Again, another male influencer, but, this man has come out with a line of clothing that has had great success. I do not own any of the Yeezy line, but I do have pieces based off of them. Basically anything Earth tones and ripped up will do, and this look is very easy to DIY. Kanye has a huge influence right next to him at all times, that being Mrs. Kim Kardashian West. She is never afraid to step out in Kanye's craziest designs. I admire her for the fact that she never hesitates to do so.
3. Rihanna
Rihanna is so carefree in what she wears, but is always classy and has some ounce of elegance. I scored big when I found and bought her FentyxPuma sneakers (2 pairs for $60 on Black Friday), and she is a main reason I started looking into the brand. Her designs are for comfort and also being fashion forward.
4. Zendaya
Zendaya is a very influential character these days. From fashion to acting she does it all. She is very into comfort, promoting her culture, and making herself and others feel good. She can almost always be seen with her natural hair and a comfortable but cute outfit on. Her main piece is always a sweatshirt or a graphic t-shirt. Don't even get me started on the Met Gala looks, STUNNING. She always steps out in her best on Met Gala nights, but she always has a positive message to go with it.
5. Jackie Kennedy
Finally, a blast to the past. Jackie Kennedy is with no doubt one of the most beautiful and influential First Ladies ever. Her dresses were always so elegant, and flowing, but her skirt suits were to die for. This gorgeous lady is who I based my senior homecoming dress off of. She was always dripping in elegance and poise, and her clothing reflected that. From her most casual of looks to her most done up, she was always stunning.
Now that you know more about my top five fashion icons, I hope you look into these people a little bit more to expand your fashion realm as well.
