Book Review: 'My Life, My Death' by Author Luke Savage
"My Life, My Death" is a master collection of poems in which Luke Savage dives into topics that will pierce the reader's soul. It his own personal journey that carries the reader into a snippet of memories in which Savage writes about death and expresses the depth of grief in his own life. He does this with some very emotionally driven pieces, such as "Under the Moon in Bradenton, Florida," where he not only shares his words, but also his own life with the ghost of a mother who is now gone. But if you look further, he reveals something very deep and personal.
There are so many different styles and types of poems, dealing with all kinds of subjects, but the message is clear. This anthology speaks from the heart of the author, and as a reader you can't help but to keep turning to the next page. Each work has a message that deals with the emotions of love, anger, grief - but tied together they bring an array of views inside the author's soul. Author Luke Savage leads us into a stairway of the life he has lived, and within each word he allows the reader to walk in the revelation of his deep pain and joy.
I also appreciated the extras that aren't always present in poetry books. Such as his preface, where he shares his process of writing, and the bonus section at the end, where he allows other new poets to share some of their own poetry. Each of Savage's poems has left an imprint on me.
If you want a book to tug at your emotions, take you into some dark paths, but also lead you to the author's message of hope, this is a must have!
My rating of this book is 5 Stars. It is a collection that, as a reader of poetry, you must be sure to get.
