Not To Brag, But My Big Is The Best

My big is without a doubt the perfect big for me.

One of the biggest, most long-awaited traditions of becoming a sister in a sorority is finding out who your Big is. A Big looks out for their Little and sometimes gives advice on different parts of the sorority process or even just life in general. When I got my Big, I was so surprised and excited for whatever adventures we would have together, and I still have that feeling today. After being in Alpha Beta Psi for a couple months now, I am so happy that I have my Big because we understand each other in the best and weirdest of ways.

In all honesty, I genuinely love all of my sorority sisters, and I know that not every member of Greek life can say that at the end of the day. However, my Big is special to me because she remembers little details about me and my fellow members of the Wild Things family, which is amazing especially since I am a part of a quintuplet set of Littles. The first detail that I noticed like this was when I received my first gift basket from my Big. For those of you who don't know me, I am ALWAYS fangirling over pandas; in fact, anytime I see a meme or gif on social media that involves pandas I immediately geek out and/or share it on whatever site I see it on. If it weren't for my Big, I would not have a giant stuffed Panda to add my collection of stuffed animals.

Another great thing about my Big is that she's very open and will always try to help out her Littles whenever she can. Whether it's studying or giving us rides back to our dorm, she always does her best to look out for us with whatever we're doing. She loves to crack jokes and embraces us for everything we are, weirdness and all. For instance, I think Sprite tastes like water when it goes flat, and my Big sometimes wants to order mozzarella sticks only to take a bite of one and remember that she doesn't like them.

My Big is also a very hard worker. She works a lot of the time, yet she always stays a very fun-loving person, and I admire that so much, even though I miss her when she is sometimes unable to make it to sorority events. Her work ethic and charismatic attitude is amazing to me because that is how I want to be with my future career.

I did not realize what an impact my Big would have on me when I first found out that she was my Big, but I am so grateful for everything she has done for me. We support each other the way a Big and Little should, and I cannot wait to see what memories we end up making in the future!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
