7 Of My Favorite Restaurants In Asheville

My personal best of the best.

I have been in Asheville now for almost three years for school and have accumulated a list of food establishments that I just adore. I have to eat gluten free for health reasons so finding good places that serve food I like can be a challenge. But here is my list of favorite eateries broken down by cuisine.

1. Mela Indian Restaurant

This is by far the best Indian restaurant ever in existence. I regularly spoil myself at their lunch buffet because almost everything they make is both gluten free and absolutely delicious. Their chicken tikka masala is to die for. If you've never checked them out and like Indian food, Mela is an absolute must.

2. Juicy Lucy's

Best. Burger. I'm sure some people have other favorites but this one is mine because the cheese comes inside the burger which makes it juicier and more flavorful. Their fries and milkshakes are also noteworthy. If you don't like sports, however, never go on Sunday. The football fans at the bar will deafen you.

3. Moe's Original BBQ

This little place on Merrimon Ave is practically in Weaverville but it's the best BBQ I've experienced thus far. Yes, I've been to Luella's, no I haven't been to the one in Biltmore. (I also haven't been anywhere else, so suggestions are welcome). But Moe's is great. You get a lot of bang for your buck, their sides are great, and their BBQ sauce has a very nice tang to it. Plus, their service is super quick and they do take out!

4. Wild Wings Cafe

A recent find of mine, I went twice in one week and their chicken wings are heavenly. With a billion different sauces to choose from and an awesome menu, I will never go anywhere else for wings ever again. Also, they have TV's at some of the tables and live music Friday nights so that’s cool.

5. Gypsy Queen Cuisine

So I've never actually been here -- I've just gotten their food from Valet Gourmet -- but it is so far the only place in Asheville I have found that makes true to form genuine mid-eastern falafel. And it's good. Not quite as good as my favorite Lebanese restaurant where my parents live, but a pretty close second. I definitely recommend checking these guys out.

6. Asheville Pizza & Brewing

Obviously my favorite pizza place. Previously, it was the only one I knew of with a gluten-free crust -- so it didn't really have any competition -- but recently I have learned of a few more places so I may alter this assessment. But for now, Asheville pizza is by the far the best pizza place I know, and previously the best wing place I knew. Also it's full of nerdy things which I appreciate.

7. Olive Garden

Okay, so this is weird but I'd never really ever been to Olive Garden until recently and I am now obsessed slightly with their gluten free pasta. I think their trick is just lots of butter. But it's good and I just want everyone to know. Even though I get really weird looks when I say my favorite Italian restaurant is Olive Garden. My second favorite is Vinnie's Italian on Merrimon though in case you were wondering.

So there you go! Seven of my favorite Asheville eateries that you should totally check out. And if you have any ideas of new places I might like feel free to let me know!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
