Today on Twitter CBE News shared that Chris Brown is the best selling R&B singer with 143.2 million records worldwide and it really got me thinking.

Nearly a decade ago, Chris Brown was arrested for assaulting fellow singer and now make-up mogul and fashion designer, Rihanna when they were dating. Chris and Rihanna were a match made in Heaven for pop and R&B fans. We were rooting for them to live happily ever after and get married and settle down together, but then he beat her senseless and almost to death.
I remember when the news broke and I cried because, at the time, I thought Rihanna wouldn't be able to make music anymore and I was hurt because I liked Chris's music.
Him abusing her, especially to the degree that he did, put a sour taste in my mouth and I haven't been able to listen to him the same since.
What I'm not understanding is how come people were quick to mute R. Kelly after the allegations of him having a sex cult was revealed in "Surviving R. Kelly" (and even before the show aired and people were working hard to get his music taken down), but Chris Brown is steadily rising in the charts.
According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1 in 4 women (aged 18 and older) have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime, which ends up being more than 10 million women and men each year being victims of domestic violence.
Despite being the victim of abuse, Rihanna still plays his music (something which outraged fans) and they even collaborated on a song. She put the past behind her and is now a successful businesswoman in many different industries. She released her new music after healing from her wounds and Rihanna has been on top ever since, even though she hasn't released music in years.
But the bottom line is I see no difference in R. Kelly and Chris Brown — they both abuse (and abused) women. Sure, Chris's PR team did a good job at handling his career since beating Rihanna, but he lost all credibility with me.
I don't get why he's a best selling male R&B artist, but we are cancelling R. Kelly every chance we get.
