Everyone could use a good laugh.

Finding people with a sense of humor that connects with you can be a rare thing. People that can create humor that is able to reach a wide variety of people just don't get enough praise. I love having a good laugh and love to surround myself with people that constantly put a smile on my face. Personally, I do not think I have a great sense of humor, in the sense that I am terrible at making up funny stuff, but I easily laugh at honestly anything!

Laughing is a great way (for me at least) to relieve stress. It lets me take a step back from the world and, usually, take a step into a satirical viewpoint of certain topics. You get a good laugh in and it lifts your mood while giving attention to important topics in a way that doesn't feel like a lecture on all the horrible things happening in the world.

Everyone's sense of humor is different. Everyone likes their own type of comedy and it can be difficult to watch comedy specials with a group if you don't all connect to the same jokes. Sometimes watching comedy specials alone is the best because only you have to like the jokes and you can find yourself laughing for an hour straight with no shame.

Thankfully, Netflix has quite an array of comedy specials for you to choose from! And if you find a comedian you like, there's a good chance they have multiple specials for you to binge watch. Watching comedy specials has become my new thing at the end of a long day (or a way to procrastinate on work). It's cheering me up, giving me a satirical or ironic look to our world, and expanding my creative knowledge as far as noticing how stand-up comedians work their audiences as well as their material. If you're a college student like me or in school or working or just want to let loose and laugh your head off, comedy specials are the way to go!

If you want to start exploring the comedy specials and get in a good laugh, here are some that I have discovered this year that will kick off your watch-list with a bang!

Okay, so I started out my Netflix Comedy Specials Binge with The Comedy Lineup. It is currently two seasons long with fifteen-minute episodes each giving the spotlight to a new comedian. It's a great way to get a taste of different styles of comedy and maybe even find one you really like and want to look into more. I flew through these and some were absolutely hilarious!

And if you like that series, Netflix create another one with a similar set up called The Standups.

Now for individual comedians who have (most commonly) multiple specials on Netflix. My favorite comedian that I discovered this semester and that I could easily rewatch many, many times and still cry-laugh to is Iliza Shlesinger.

Another intriguing comedian that was recently recommended to me and that I absolutely ended up loving was Bo Burnham - more specifically his Make Happy special. At first, I was hesitant when the comedy special first started because it was different from any other comedy specials I had watched. He blends his comedy in with music and ironic songs. You definitely have to let it build and get used to it. If I'm being honest, I almost stopped watching it in the beginning, but I am so glad I kept watching because I ended up laughing harder than I had in a while. Plus, it's different and cool and unique and extremely funny! Highly recommend checking it out if you want a taste of something unique and relatable!

Okay, all you theater nerds out there, you need to watch Oh, Hello On Broadway. It is hilarious. It takes a bit to get going and for you to catch on to their act, but once you do it is so funny! Even if you're not super into theater it's good comedy, however, you may not understand all of their pokes at plays.

One of my favorite comedians that one of my friends once introduced me to early in high school is Daniel Sloss. I used to watch his comedy on YouTube, but he finally has a comedy special on Netflix! He is hilarious! I cannot stress that enough. His accent makes it all the better if you like international comedians! But his jokes always land and his comedy is something I could, and have multiple times, watch over and over again!

And the last comedian I shall introduce you to is John Mulaney. He has multiple specials on Netflix and I have cry-laughed more times at his jokes than I can count. Definitely, definitely watch those! Also, Brent Morin's, Jack Whitehall's, and Trevor Noah's comedy special makes you laugh continuously the whole way through. There's always some comedians that know how to make each joke the highlight, and Brent Morin has that kind of comedy special.

Comedy has always been something I've been really into. Even when my family used to watch America's Got Talent the comedians were always my favorite acts! It is definitely an art that only certain people have a gift in. There is so much craft behind their material and they really do not get enough credit for how well rehearsed and how well received their work is. My favorite thing about comedy specials is the last joke where pieces from other parts of the act come together and make it one big hilarious slap in the face by how well they weaved their jokes to create an even more hilarious ending!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
