I’ve constructed a world all about me
Hardly giving you room to breathe
Life into this burning soul
One still wrestling with a place to call home
You see I’ve seen people rise and fall
I’ve seen people who already have it all
Running after empty things
They can barely breathe
Falling from the exhaustion of striving
The elusive hope of greatness in them rising
But what good is greatness revolving around self-glorification
What good is greatness if we do not leave a legacy of love, and life, and peace
Bringing healing and hope to all of those who are hurting
What good is “greatness” if we’ve left nothing great behind
Filling the souls of the lonely and broken
Hearing the cries of all who have been hurt, bruised, scarred, abused
What words can you say that won’t leave them longing
If you know Jesus Christ, you’re called to speak
If you know him you’re called to believe that
He’ll bring glory to the jaggedness
He’ll bring healing to the hopeless
Anyone who calls on his name
Is reaching for the root that will save and plant them in the Kingdom of God
Plant them where neither moth, nor dust, nor rust destroys
Plant them where they can dwell forevermore
So forgive me Father, for I have sinned
Forgive me Father for I have fallen into
Striving after empty things
When you already died to set me free
When you died to rewrite our legacies.
