I recently re-watched "Fantasia 2000," bringing back a rush of childhood memories and emotions. But most of all it reminded me of how impactful music can be in our lives. Music is the art-form purely for the ears and the imagination, it brings to life these fantastic images that we wouldn’t have necessarily associated with that piece. But this is what came to our minds and it somehow seems to fit so perfectly with the crescendos, tempo and lilt of the piece.
Music becomes visual, creating its own art. Then you realize someone thought of each and every note that went into this 15-minute piece of art. Choosing the right chords, each instrument that would participate and bring the piece to life.
Think of a movie like "Fantasia 2000." Not only did someone write these beautiful and powerful pieces of music but then some other artist created a new story with it. Giving the notes characteristics and telling the story that we all hear. Think of the ballet, how dancers are able to convey the emotions of a piece through their body, which is a whole new effect. And you just sit there watching, thinking: how does this fit so perfectly and convey everything I hear?
Music is a language that everyone can understand, even if you can’t read sheet music, even if you can’t hear the notes. It still has the ability to send shivers down your spine and bring tears to your eyes. It’s able to move you and bring a connection to your life. It has the ability to inspire the rest of the world through a single opening note. It opens up areas in our mind that we can’t access without a strong piece, opening us all up to a new world that we never thought could exist.
Music can inspire writers, athletes, doctors, lawyers, painters, actors and psychiatrists. It makes us feel and touches the deepest parts of us that nothing else can reach. Inspiring passion in the demure, understanding the strong-willed and connection between all. Unifying opposites, letting the bold brass complement the soft strings, in a way that makes your heart skip a beat and butterflies to stir in your stomach.
Music has the ability to fear for the slow deep notes and fall in love with the whimsical light notes. The tempo speeds as your creating mind soars and you take flight in the crescendo. Music allows possibilities to be endless. Letting things fall into harmony even if for only a moment.
