Listening to music is an experience that has been consistently transforming since the beginning of time. This is a phenomenon that has been accelerated with the rise of the Internet. In the last decade alone, music sharing has reached levels that were previously unheard of. In fact, music sharing has been one of the most controversial and complex aspects of a digital society. While we now have access to music in ways that were never possible before, finding the right medium can be a challenge. The days of Napster and LimeWire are long gone and streaming services have taken over. The list of services that can be both reached online and downloaded to your mobile device are almost endless. This article is designed to inform you with the most in style, easy to use and expansive streaming apps. Depending on your budget and other factors it's up to you to determine which app (or apps, you may choose to have several like me) is best for your needs.
8Tracks
This free service provides its users with a layout that allows one to personalize their experience and discover new music. Overall 8tracks is known for attracting an alternative crowd who might not want to use something as "mainstream" as Spotify.
Apple Music
Perhaps the service I would recommend the most. Apple's attempt to enter the streaming world has been very well done if you ask me. Apple Music provides its users with an extremely extensive collection of music and a very easy to use set up. Its radio feature consist of updated music and its features function cohesively with your iPhone (for obvious reasons.)
BandCamp
This service is great for finding new artists. Its focus is primarily on underground and independent musicians so if you're into supporting up and coming artists, this is the app for you. One of its best features is that it allows you select your music based on global cities.
Spotify
As the app that has probably become the most known as far streaming is concerned it is in no way or form generic. Spotify has many features that makes extremely unique, its student discount makes it the best economical choice for college students. As far as playlist are concerned is has one of the largest libraries, consisting of ones made by their editors, users and third parties (such as online magazines) and makes it very simple to share them with friends.
SoundCloud
Soundcloud is what I could consider a mix between Spotify and BandCamp. It is great platform for up and coming artist, but is also widely used by major artists.
Tidal
While the app itself needs a lot of work in terms of easy to use features its strength is based on its star power. Tidal has recently become known for its ability to provide users with exclusive access to some of the hottest new albums, such as Kanye Wests' "The Life of Pablo" and Beyonce's "Lemonade."
