I love checking out new artists all the time, and I’m pretty sure I struck gold when looked into The Struts after hearing their hit “Could Have Been Me” on an alternative radio station. Just making their US debut last year, the British rock band comprised of lead singer Luke Spiller, guitarist Adam Slack, bassist Jed Elliot, and drummer Gethin Davies has it all, from edge to depth.
The band heavily resembles legendary rock bands, especially Queen, but still maintains originality with its unique sound. Spiller’s voice is unbelievable with its range and rasp, and his image with layers of jet-black hair and dark cloak-like clothes adds to the uniqueness of the band as a whole. The songs are catchy, yet deep, and the way the band performs them is with emotion that keeps you on your feet but thinking.
Here are a few songs off their debut album “Everybody Wants” that you should check out.
“Could Have Been Me” – This is the main hit that gained the band popularity in the US, and it’s a good starter to get a sense of what the whole album sounds like through one song. The music video is a great supplement to what the song is all about.
“Kiss This” – This song shows off Spiller’s voice beautifully. It has a great sense of sass.
“Put Your Money on Me” – This is one of my favorites. The lyrics are incredibly well-written and describe someone who might not have it all together but still deserves a chance.
“Dirty Sexy Money” – Definitely my other favorite. The lyrics have a carefree, rowdy style that is perfect for a party type of playlist. Spiller’s voice is absolutely amazing in this one too, especially in the first verse.
“Where Did She Go” – This is my favorite song to hear live. This song is simple lyrics-wise, but the band spices it up with different sounds throughout.
I predict this talented foursome is going to be even bigger in the US as time goes by and people really get to know their music. I'm excited for upcoming tour announcements, as well as when we're going to have new music of their's come out.
