This the second half of the excerpt of the book I'm working on. I know it needs some work so comments would be helpful.

It was hours later before Wayne got up the nerve to knock on the door of the Thomas’ mobile home. This was going to be harder than he originally planned. He didn’t know the guy and had no ill will towards him but his lust for Terry made it clear that he did this for her. She had promised another night of fun for the both of them once the task was completed.

Wayne stood on the porch and rapped on the door. Inside Abby was barking.

“Settle down girl. It’s probably just one of the guys from work.”

Thomas got up from his chair and walked over to the door, opened it and found a young man on the other side of the glass.

“Can I help you?” Thomas was trying to figure out who the stranger was.

“Can I use your phone? My cell died, and my car broke down a little ways up the road.”

“Sure.” Thomas opened the door and allowed the stranger inside the house. “The phone is in the kitchen,” Thomas pointed to the east end of the trailer and went back to his favorite rocking chair.

“Thanks,” Wayne said as he walked towards the kitchen.

He watched until the old man was back in his rocker before he picked up the phone and proceeded to make the fake call.

Thomas was settled in watching the Atlanta Braves baseball game and didn’t notice Wayne walking up behind him. There was a pipe wrench hide in the waistband of his jeans that he was slowly retrieving without making a sound.

Wayne crept up to the back of the recliner and drew back the pipe wrench. He knew he had to make this blow in one take. He didn’t want to make too much of a mess since he would be the one cleaning it up.

Thomas caught a movement out of his peripheral. The movement of his head was too slow to catch what was happening. Before he could make himself speak a hard blow hit the side of his head and his world went black. Wayne instantly felt sick as soon as the wrench connected with the old man’s skull. He heard a loud crunch of the bone when it hit. Thomas slumped over in the chair, his body lifeless and his eyes wide open with a very surprised look on his face.

Wayne took a moment to right himself then busied himself with the task of cleaning up the place. The dog, what was he to do with the dog? Wayne called Abby to him and let her outside. He felt bad and didn’t want her to see her dad this way. In the laundry room, Wayne found a number of cleaning products and took them into the living room. He shed his hoodie and tossed it into a black garbage bag along with the rags that he used to clean off the tv and the walls. The blood spatter was a lot more than he had planned for.

Wayne searched the trailer for a place to hide the body and something to cover him in. Finally, he found a closet full of sheets and blankets. He spread a large blanket out on the floor and drug the body of Thomas onto it. He searched his pockets and only found $40 in his shirt pocket.

“Son of a bitch! There has to be more.” After a failed search of more money, Wayne stopped looking and proceeded to roll him up like a taco in a couple more blankets. Once he was sure that the body was covered he dragged it down the hall all the way to the very last bedroom. He maneuvered the body into the corner and drug the mattress from the bed to lay on top of him. This way it will take longer for him to be found.

Once happy with his work Wayne returned to the living room and used the bleach to clean up the blood spills in the carpet. The chair he covered in another blanket and tucked it in to make it look normal. Wayne took all the rags, gloves, and anything else he had used to clean up with and threw it in the black plastic garbage bag. He would burn that later. The wrench he took to the sink and washed it off with bleach. As far as he could tell there would be no trace of him in the house. Not that he could remember.

Wayne took the bag and the wrench and walked out of the trailer. He waited until he had driven away from the scene of the crime before he called Terry to tell her the good news.

“Hey babe, it’s done. There was on 40 on him”

“What a good boy you are. We will discuss that later when you get to my place.” Terry said and then the line disconnected.

Wayne was feeling a little ticked off as he walked to his car. There was supposed to be 2 grand on the old man. Was Terry lying to him just to get him to do the job? No. she couldn’t be, could she?

There was so many questions and the guilt was starting to set in. What gave him the courage to kill? Why was it so easy? Did every serial killer start out this way? He drove his car out to an old abandoned campsite and parked. He removed the bag from the trunk along with liter fluid and matches. He watched the evidence from his first kill burn and he didn’t leave until he knew that the remains were barely noticeable.

He walked back to the car and pulled out the pipe wrench and walked to the shore of the lake. He tossed the wrench as hard and as far as he could. He heard the splash it made in the water and was happy with knowing it would be a bitch to find.

Wayne walked back to his car and then drove off to Terry’s house.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
