The date is Thursday, December 6th. I had just gotten home from school and I realized I did not have any assessments the next day to study for. I was elated but I realized it was going to be a boring day if I didn't figure out what to do. Suddenly, I saw my wand sitting on my desk and I had a great idea. What better time to binge the entire Harry Potter series. I was ready to get started binging my favorite movie series of all time but I began to think, why was it my favorite?
The series has had so many magical moments that make it unique and amazing. The acting of the characters gets better and better with each movie and each subplot or minor event eventually ties back to the greater conclusion. This is what separates pieces of literature from their less well done counterparts. I always loved the fact that harry potter was a wizard and not some child of god etc. On the outside he seemed to be normal boy in the Wizarding world but his fame and notoriety gave him substantial fame and power to dictate the events that were going on in the world of Harry Potter.
The movies also make you feel as though you are a wizard too, enchanting us with the powerful spells and the stories from Ron and Hermione's romance to Hagrid and the list goes on and on. And who can forget the powerful bond that Harry had with his godfather Sirius Black and the pain that we all felt when we saw Bellatrix hit him with that killing curse. Truly one of the saddest moments that I've ever seen and probably will see. We also all felt a need to look in the Mirror of Erised and see what would come up in there. That was the magic of the movies, it gave us the belief that there was more than what's meets the eye.
Recently, I visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios. This experience was all the more impacted by the fact that I had been a longtime fan of Harry Potter. I understood each of the little tricks and references they made inside this section of the amusement park. But this series has taught me so much more than simple magic. It has taught me that being different is a blessing and while it may not seem like that at first, good things happen to people who protect others. These characters also taught me about the importance of friends and why it's important to keep those you care about near you to keep them in your life.
At the end of the day, movie series have to stay relevant and the Wizarding World has done just that too provide for its longtime fans. With the release of the Fantastic Beasts movies, this fictional world has done its best to help its loyal followers. However, no amount of movies will be able to capture the original magic of the 8 movie trilogy. The heartbreak from Dobby's death or the fear after seeing Voldemort(You-know-who) order his snake to go kill the teacher of muggle studies in front of all his death eaters. It was moments like that which made us understand the magic of the situation and see that there is a story behind each story. At the end of the day, they always say nothing beats the originals and Harry Potter has done just that. Now lets just wait and see how the remaining movies turn out cuz I cannot wait.
