Missed E3 and haven't been paying much attention to game announcements but you're still super excited for another year of gaming? Well, don't worry, I've got you covered. Here's my top picks from all of the games coming out this season from August to early 2017. From what I can tell and considering how many great games have been announced, this upcoming season of gaming is going to be massive and one of the greatest we've seen in a while. It may be a bit early yet, but feel free to join the hype train with me.
1. Battlefield 1
If you're getting tired of the same old first person shooters being released over and over again, then you're with me. I have high hopes that this bad-ass looking game set during WWI will breathe new life into the fps genre. Not many games touch this time period, especially fps'. So this will definitely be a completely new experience. "Battlefield 1" comes out October 21 of this year for console and PC.
2. No Man's Sky
We'll finally be able to explore "No Man's Sky's" massively expansive procedurally generated galaxy on August 9th of this year on PC and PS4, that is if it isn't delayed again. Considering that this will be one of the most unique games of this year, and quite literally the biggest, it'll be well worth the wait.
3. Mass Effect Andromeda
Although there's still so little known about this game and very few clips of it shown, it's incredibly exciting (especially for a huge fan of the series such as myself.) We'll be receiving our long awaited return to the "Mass Effect" universe on consoles and PC sometime in early 2017. This time we'll get to experience something completely different with a brand new galaxy to set foot in (as you can tell by the title) and a new protagonist to make game changing decisions with.
4. Dishonored 2
It's been a while since we were first introduced to Dishonored's dark, steampunk world. It's finally coming back with more challenges and consequences than ever. The story will be picking up with a rather familiar character who was just a child in the original as its protagonist(hint hint). Dishonored 2 will be arriving on consoles and PC November 11 of this year.5. Mafia III
It's also been even longer since we've had a Mafia game. While the previous game took place in a fictional city set in the late 40s and early 50s, this one takes place about ten years later focusing on a late 1960s Louisiana. The "Mafia" series is often compared to the more widely popular GTA, and although they may have their similarities, Mafia is a unique series all its own. It's nice to see that it's finally getting a new addition. Mafia III will be released October 7 of this year for consoles and PC.6. Horizon Zero Dawn
I'm normally not a fan of this style of game, but primitive humans fighting what can basically be described as giant robot dinosaurs in a very post post apocalyptic world certainly piques my interest. This odd mashup is something we've never experienced before, and it sounds like the story it follows will make it even more unique. Horizon Zero Dawn is a PS4 exclusive coming February 28, 2017.
7. Skyrim Special Edition
I know what you're thinking, Skyrim is a thing of the past. More importantly, where's the next Elder Scrolls game? Well here's the thing; we may not have the next Elder Scrolls coming anytime soon, but Skyrim Special Edition will certainly help quell our wants until that day comes. "Skyrim" was a beautiful enough game already, but when you update it to next-gen graphics and provide all of its dlc with the game purchase, who wouldn't want to re-experience that wonderful wintry land of the Nords? I think it's safe to say that plenty of us will want to be the Dragonborn again because of this. You'll be able to return to this enhanced version of "Skyrim" on October 28 of this year with console (mods included) or PC.
These seven games are just a few of many coming out in this massive season for gaming. There are plenty more releases to get excited for that weren't included on this list, not to mention the many games that haven't been officially announced but seem to be in the works. If that's not enough to get you excited, I don't know what is.
