Both Of You Are My Person

Both Of You Are My Person
Peter Gritsas

For those of you who don't know what a “person” is, then you better start watching Grey’s Anatomy. My best definition of a person is this, someone, who you have such a unique bond with that couldn't possibly be understood by others. You do things that would just be insane to the blind eye. For instance, we practically only speak through movie quotes, there are days where we eat food and pretty much don't say a word to each other, and it is EXTREMELY rare that we hug or show any other sort of physical affection. You’d think we hate each other right?! WRONG! Because the second one of us has a broken heart or is upset, we are there in a split second. They find out I am in a rut and what do they do? They come over with a pizza, 8 different kinds of candy, various Hostessproducts, the movie version of Sex and the City, and two sets of ears ready to listen. It is so rare to have friends that you could say anything to, and we have said some crazy stuff to each other. We are the kind of friends that say, “So when you are with a guy for a while and you think you might wanna marry him, we will just take him by the arms to Tiffany and Co. andpoint out the ring you want.” There are moments where we look at each other and say, “So if I just fail at life can we just get a nice apartment together with a king size bed and never get out of it?” I will never forget both of them coming to the opening night of my shows and giving me flowers with notes that say, “Don’t suck”, “You are a disappointment”, “We paid 12 dollars for this?” I’ve read so many stories about people having a “person”. But there is nothing like having the trio that I have now. Through all of it, we have never let distance get to us. We are miles away from each other during the school year, I’m even in a different state! We are the type of friends that make time to FaceTime during the week and simply make the effort to stay in touch. I remember so clearly what Meredith Grey said to Cristina Yang in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “Derek is the love of my life, but you are my soulmate.” Simply put, we are the friends that go above and beyond for each other. To close, I will leave you with a quote by Charlotte York from Sex and the City,

“Don't laugh at me, but maybe we could be each other’s soulmates? And then we could let men be just these great nice guys to have fun with?”

I don’t know about you, but sometimes that seems like the best plan ever. This is for all of you out there with a person, and for those of you lucky enough to have more than one.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
