8 Money Goals For The College Shopaholic

It's now 2018 and I have finally realized how terrible I can be with money. I had my first job four years ago at a sub shop and you would think I would have put a lot of that money away, but nope! I went on and got another job at the local YMCA and worked both jobs for a bit. In my head I figured I'd put one of the paychecks from one of the two jobs into savings, but that didn't happen and I ended up just working at the Y because they gave me more hours. Now i'm going into my final semester of undergrad and have finally realized that the real world will be here before I know it. I recently came up with some goals for myself in order to save more money. So, if you're like me and like to "treat yo self" after a hard week, but know you need to save, here are some of my goals and tips for 2018.

1. SAVE more than you spend

This means putting away more money into a savings account, looking for deals when you absolutely NEED something, and maybe even start couponing. Whatever it takes to save a little extra when you shop.

2. Save AT LEAST $100 a month!

That's only $25 a week each month..not too bad if you ask me

3. Only buy things you NEED!

DON'T buy things you just want. Chances are you won't wear the shirt, you don't need more shoes, and you keep wearing the same five outfits you've always had. It might make you happy in the moment, but think about how happy you'll be when you see your bank account getting larger!

4. DON'T IMPULSE spend!!!

Think before you buy! If you really think you want something write it down and wait three days, if you still really want it by the end of those three days go back and get it.

5. Use CASH

Use cash before taking out the credit card or debit card. It's a lot harder to spend when you have to watch your wallet get smaller.

6. Grow my savings account!

Pay yourself before buying more unnecessary things!

7. Small things add up

Just because it's on sale or only a few bucks doesn't mean you need it. Every small purchase adds up! Even food adds up. Save money and make your own food.

8. Think about the FUTURE

I will have student loans, I want to move into an apartment (maybe a house) with my fiancé, we have a wedding to save for, and I also want to go on vacations. These are just some bigger expenses I try to keep in mind before I spend money. What are your goals you want to save up for?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
