Mod Sun's Act Of Kindness

Mod Sun, which is abbreviated from "Movement of dreams, stand under none", is an American rapper, songwriter, musician, poet, and author known by name as Derek Smith. Mod Sun's debut album "Look Up" was released in December of 2015 and has been featured with artists such as Goody and The Weekend Hustler. The music he makes falls under the genre alternative hip hop. The top downloaded song on Spotify is "Shoot 'Em Down" which features popular artists such as Blackbear and MGK. But, in my opinion, if you're looking for a song to jam out to in the shower listen to "She Just Wanna Dance".

Just like most celebrities, Mod Sun took to twitter to connect with fans further than performing a show or signing autographs. Celebrities like Harry Styles and Justin Bieber thank their fans by clicking the 'follow' button on their profiles and expect that to be enough communication to prove their gratitude. But, Mod Sun took this further.

If you've logged onto twitter any time between the months of February and May, you've seen high school kids tweet things like "@SelenaGomez how many retweets do I need to take you to Prom?". Most of the time they are super-fans and want any recognition from their favorite pop star they can get, or they are desperate for a date like the time I tried to get Scott Disick to go to semi with me (yikes).

On Tuesday March 28 and 3:37 in the morning @kailarain_ took to twitter and tweeted Mod Sun her own request. It wasn't for him to be her date to a formal event, mail her an autographed picture, or an upgrade on her seats for his next show, but rather she asked Derek Smith, Mod Sun, to "pay her (my) rent."

Without beating around the bush, famous musicians and performers are generally pretty well off and occasionally live over the top glamorous lives. While there is nothing wrong with that, I'm sure we all wish we lived in a house with an indoor AND outdoor pool, the people who have earned such a strong platform have the perfect opportunity to normalize random acts of kindness and charitable acts.

At 3:41 of the same day, Mod Sun replied to her tweet with "how much, u got PayPal?" and then proceeded to tweet a picture of the closed transaction to Kaila of $500 for her rent.

He signed off the transaction with a note to Kaila that thanked her for her dedication to his music career and told her Mod Sun loved her and she had a forever friend in him.

I'm not asking celebrities to hand out money every time they get a twitter notification, although it would be pretty rewarding for Gucci Mane to pay my college tuition, because at the end of the day the $500 dollars was Mod Sun's hard earned cash. What celebrities choose to do with their money can sometimes be remarkable. I would love to commend Mod Sun for helping out his fans in such a personable way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
