If you're anything like me, you're already counting down the days until it's time for the fall semester to begin. Summer is great, but you're ready to be back in your college town, and most importantly, you're ready to be reunited with your best friends! It's hard to go from seeing your person every day, maybe even sharing a dorm room or an apartment with them, and then suddenly going months with only impromptu FaceTime dates and, of course, a three-month Snapchat streak.
It might be hard to imagine that anyone else can truly feel your
pain, but Michael Scott is here to tell you he understands it all.
1. When you first said goodbye to your best friend and realized it could be months before you see them again.
This was a moment of true despair, but you put on a brave face, took down the last of the decorations in your shared room, hugged each other goodbye and tried not to look back as you walked away.
2. You and your best friend usually finish each other's sentences and now...
Without your other half, everything seems incomplete, including your sentences. You're used to constantly having someone beside you who knows exactly what you're thinking and now you just feel totally lost.
3. Without your best friend, nothing is quite as exciting as it used to be.
When you are with your best friend, even going to the grocery store seems exciting (probably because it means going to Target and spending an hour in the dollar section). Now it seems like nothing can bring you the same joy.
4. No one else understands your need for late night milk shakes.
Sure, this is probably for the best. No one really needs to drink a large chocolate milkshake at midnight (especially when you have class to wake up for the next morning), but this was practically your Tuesday night ritual. Why does no one else understand your cravings?
5. And no one else can possibly understand your moods and emotions the way they can.
No one can read you better than your best friend. Forget about hiding anything from them. You may have actually forgotten how to talk to other people about your emotions because you are so used to just being understood.
6. Without their support, your online shopping habit has gotten way out of hand.
You're totally bored and going to the mall seems pointless without them, so you resort to online shopping, and it is draining your bank account. Now you have a pile of ill-fitting impulse buys that your best friend definitely would have saved you from ordering.
7. You realize there is still more than a month left of summer, and you don't know if you're going to make it.
8. But then you remember how lucky you are and decide to look forward to your reunion.
9. Because there is no one quite as awesome as your best friend.
So, hang in there. In just over a month, we will be heading back to our college towns, reuniting with the people who truly understand us. It might seem like the summer will last forever, but the wait should just make us appreciate our best friends that much more.
