Dear Twenty One Pilots, pilots,
Even though I became a fan at the peak of the Blurryface era, I still miss you.
Your music meant so much to me and still means so much to me. I spent hours rapping along to “Car Radio” and “Migraine” to make sure I nailed it because I wanted to get it right.
I spent hours looking for lyrics that made the perfect Instagram captions and Facebook statuses and I found a few of my favorite ones.
“I’m a pro at imperfections and I’m best friends with my doubt.” from “The Judge.”
“Sometimes to stay alive, you gotta kill your mind.” from “Migraine.”
And “Somebody stole my car radio, so now I just sit in silence.” from “Car Radio.”
You see, your music hasn’t just impacted me, it’s impacted my best friend, too. I took her with me two years ago in August to see you at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis and she fell in love.
When we saw you for the first time, we were wearing matching “Blurryface” shirts because that’s our thing, matching at concerts, and we were singing and dancing along to your songs.
“Car Radio” is probably one of my favorite songs of yours to hear live because it’s just Tyler and a piano on stage and a room full of 20,000 people singing along.
Watching Tyler run around in his hamster ball and watching the crowd hold up Tyler and Josh on their platforms during “Trees” was an experience that I’ll never forget. Going to a twenty one pilots show is truly a crowd interactive experience.
My best friend Mady and I at the twenty one pilots show on August 2, 2016 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
Your music has become a staple in our many “inner emo kid,” throwback and road trip playlists. Your music has become our go-to on late night car rides when we want to drive around and not go home and has made everything better.
When I’m not feeling right, I’ll listen to some of your songs. The lyrics are raw, real and full of emotion. I can tell that you put your heart and souls into these songs and I take comfort knowing that I am not alone in my problems.
I can’t keep up with all of the cryptic things and theories about your return that are going around on Twitter, but every time I see something that even relates to your return to music, I get excited and start picturing the next time that I will be able to see you in concert because it’s almost been two years, two years too long.
Whenever you come off of hiatus, make a new album and announce a new tour, I will buy the album and a ticket to your next concert. I will be there and it will be one of the best days of my life.
Until your return, I will continue listening to your music and trying to keep up with the theories on Twitter.
“We are twenty one pilots and so are you.”
