Every time you look into a mirror you sin against God. This happens when you look at your reflection in the window or check yourself using the phones front camera. We are all guilty of this sin, we are all guilty of insulting Our Father's beautiful creation.
Whether we want to admit it or not, we are pretty hard on ourselves. When we look at our reflection we automatically say something negative about our appearance, we spit insults about how big our nose is or wish for a better body. Get this, God made that nose, He shaped that body in the way that He sees it should be. We are His creation. No one complains about how ugly a sunset is, instead they Instagram the sunset with the hashtag #beautifulcreation. You look exactly the way you do for a purpose. If God thinks you are beautiful, then you better believe it. The same goes for inner appearance. We may not like our little quirks and wish we could be more outgoing or be smarter, but we are exactly the way we are because that is the way God has always intended us to be.
Learn to love the unique person God has created you to be. If we cannot fully love ourselves then how can we fully love others? Mark 12:31 says to love your neighbor as yourself. There is not much love for other people when you are constantly bringing yourself down. How can you fulfill this command when you feel disgusted at what you see in the mirror? Take heed from the words of David in Psalms 139:14 "I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this." You are miraculous. Let this sink in for a bit...you are wonderful, fantastic, and beautiful. Do not let anyone say otherwise, more importantly, do not let yourself say otherwise.
In saying all of this comes a warning, excessive self-love, vanity, is also a sin. Do not boast in your own beauty because it is not of your own doing. It is God's beauty and He can boast in His creation. Honor and respect His creation, this is including your own self. Treat yourself kindly and tenderly for you would not deliberately destroy a flower for no reason. The flower and our being were crafted by the same hands, both are lovely and made whole by the almighty love of God.
In the words of Justin Bieber, go and "Love Yourself" so you can truly and completely love others.
