Everyone has their late night stories and adventures. Some go on car rides and others stay up late hanging out with friends while others listen to music and reflect on their lives. Please enjoy my collection of late night stories.

Laundry Room Screams

There are often times during the week where I do not have time to do laundry during the day because of classes and work. One week, I had to do laundry after work and it was a weekend so I figured not many people would be around to disrupt my laundry business. Getting the clothes through the washer and the dryer was fine but then I had to go pick up the clothes to bring them back to my dorm room. I got to the first floor of the freshman dorms and a man comes out of a room and starts yelling at me. I ignore him and go into the laundry room and this man follows me. I can tell he's drunk and he just yells in the laundry room. "You don't know shit! Get out! What the fu** is wrong with you?" along with other inappropriate phrases. I did not make eye contact with him and just grabbed my clothes and went out a different door and went back to my room to put my clothes again.

Clowns and a Naked Man

A lot of people enjoy going to Wal-Mart with their friends when it's 1:00 am because no adults are there and the night staff is too tired to care what kind of fun you choose to have. I had been doing homework in the Pharmacy building with some of my friends but then I remembered I forgot to prepare decorations for French Club. I decided to go a little after midnight and be back around 2:00 am to make my artwork, sleep a few hours, and then run the French Club booth and go to work. I got to Walmart and noticed a man leaving, he looked awfully strange. His hair was purple and it looked like a mop, his face was painted white with red eyes and a smile. He was wearing a robe of stitched together rags. All of a sudden he yelled across the parking lot "What the hell you think you're doing?". I looked in the direction of his question and saw a large, naked man get out of a car. He responded with "I'm fu**ing my girl. What you think I'm doin'?". The clown man said, "Get a fu**ing hotel room. You're right next to my car!". The naked man started to come out from the protection of the car. I turned away and rushed into Wal-Mart before I saw a body part that I was not interested in seeing. I heard them argue and yell at each other as my cowardice guided me into the store rather than take a video to show my friends later.

Nothing Like Early Morning Singing

College is known to make its student sleep deprived but no one truly knows the feeling of sleep deprivation until it's 3:00 am and you still have two pages of an essay to write. My roommate and I experienced this together. Now, as it gets later into the night, I become more focused to get my work done. My roommate is the opposite, she gets unfocused and instead becomes all loopy and weird. We both were sitting at our desks typing away. I had my music on my headphones and hers was playing outside of her laptop. All of a sudden, I look over and she's swaying back and forth and all I hear is off-key singing. She would sing and then laugh and write and repeat. It was the longest night of my life but it was probably the most fun she and I had as freshmen in college.

Just Getting To Know You

When a person chooses to leave your life, it can sometimes feel like the world is ending. I experienced that this past year but as my heart healed, I found someone knew. My favorite part about connecting with someone again is the getting-to-know-you part. It's the times where you and that person text or talk on the phone or hang out for hours on end. For me, this always happens with a phone call or a video chat. It would start around midnight and last until the early morning. For this man, it was a video chat that almost didn't happen. I was in New Orleans with my friend and we had a busy day. I was exhausted and this guy was with his friends. He wanted to video chat with me once he was not with his friends and so I waited because he said he would be home soon. I got to the point of being so tired that I started setting twenty-minute alarms to keep myself awake but letting myself sleep a little bit. At some point, I didn't wake up for an alarm and end up sleeping for an hour. I woke up and still saw nothing from this guy. I thought about just going to bed but a few minutes later, I got a text. We set up a Skype call and video chatted until three or four in the morning. We faced a lot of camera freezing so it mainly became texting while looking at our frozen faces with increments of hanging up and restarting the chat. It was a nice break from a busy and fun-filled vacation.

Prince of the Hobbits

Remember that sleep deprivation business I was mentioning earlier? It isn't always correlated with college work, of course. My friends and I were having a sleepover, we colored hair and had a good time. At one point, I was coloring my roommate's hair and our other friend was half asleep. He would wake up and start mumbling about being how he's "Prince of the Hobbits" and how he also wanted to be the "Prince of Lasagna" but not any lasagna, it had to be Kroger brand. My roommate and I were almost on the floor laughing so hard about the things he was saying. At another point of the night, we were in the middle of dying of laughter when he woke up for good. Everything was even funnier because he didn't remember a single thing of what he said or talked about. He didn't believe us until my roommate showed him a video.

Shout My Name to the Heavens

I got off of work the one day and heard a group of people over by the fountain near my school. My senses told me it wasn't their first time having a fun night with dipping their toes in the fountain. Now, my work requires me to wear a name tag, and I kind of regretted the fact of wearing that last night. The weirdest part was this group of people knew more than just my first name, but they also new my last name. One of the guys in the group was particularly drunk and he asked me over and over again to pronounce my name because he heard it was rather long. I walked the whole group through pronouncing my name as we all walked to our rooms. It was fun and they were a hilarious group of individuals. As we walked, they said my last name loudly and I told them to just shout it out loud to the heavans above. Sure enough, my last name was shouted and we all shared a laugh. It was a nice walk after a hard night's work.

I hope you had a nice time reading these little stories of my late night adventures. I hope to have plenty more because, despite them being scary sometimes, I greatly enjoy my late night affairs.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
