Boy do I have sushi and Japanese food on the brain this week. Much thanks goes out to my friend Toni for igniting this latest obsession of mine. I swear, that girl could have sushi for breakfast, lunch AND dinner and still not be sick of it. 😂 My cravings, on the other hand, come in waves and when it comes to Japanese cuisine, I'm not the easiest to please. It's a bit weird considering I am such a foodie and will eat just about anything that won't kill me (#allergyprobs) but I kinda don't wanna eat bad fish either haha. So, taking that into consideration, let me introduce you to my go-to, forever fave Japanese restaurant, Mikado. My family and I have been going here for years and trust nowhere else to satisfy our cravings. Oh and don't you worry, it's picky eater approved LOL.

Mikado Japanese Cuisine

Located in MetroWest and right across the street from another foodie fave of mine (Josie's Pizza & Wings...review coming soon!), Mikado is a quaint little restaurant you'd be silly not to visit. The staff is always so friendly and they put up with my dad's terrible dad jokes with a smile so that's a definite plus LOL. Now that I've turned 21, I've made it my mission to broaden my alcohol horizons. This visit, I tried Plum Rice Wine for the very first time and I've been changed for the better (peep my fellow Wicked fans). If you like sweet dessert wines, you'd love this one. Next on my list is Sake...wish me luck. 😅

As for the main meal, my parents and I decided to go the bento box route simply because it was lunch time and we couldn't pass up on their bomb lunch deal. Bento boxes are great because you get a little bit of everything which is perfect for indecisive people like me who just want to eat everything in sight--yes, I have a problem. 😂 At most Japanese restaurants, your meal will come with a ginger salad and/or soup. Because it was lunchtime, I picked the Miso Soup which is a soybean paste base with seaweed, tofu, and scallions. It tastes so much better than it sounds, I promise. Fun Fact: I am not generally a soup person, especially when I'm sick, but miso soup is my one exception--it always trumps chicken noodle. 💁

After the soup came the main event! I went with the Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box which came with an assortment of goodies including fried rice, gyoza (fried pork dumplings), crispy spring rolls, and 2 pieces of what I believe to be a California roll (although I may be wrong on that one...I just know it was nothing raw!). The amazing and tender chicken teriyaki was served atop some very flavorful veggies including broccoli, mushrooms, zucchini, and carrots. I'll be completely honest with you, everything was so delicious on it's own, I didn't even need to use the sauces on the side. Whaaa?! 😋

My dad decided to go with the Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box, another good choice. I almost went this route myself but I'm just a wimp when it comes to raw sushi. 🙈 His bento box came with a spicy crabmeat salad atop some spiraled cucumbers and topped with tempura crisps. He really enjoyed this salad and I think I would have too. He also opted for white rice, shumai (fried shrimp dumplings), and another type of sushi roll that I just can't remember the name of (I'm sorry!!). All I know is that it was raw and he loved it! Not to mention, the salmon was to die for, sitting atop those same yummy veggies.

Overall, Mikado never disappoints. I mean just look at those bento boxes, vibrant in both color and flavor. Not pictured, but equally delicious, is Mikado's Fujiyama roll and I HIGHLY recommend getting this if you are just in the mood for sushi. And, if you have room for dessert, my brother recommends the mochi ice-cream! I'm telling ya, you've really got to check this place out, especially if you love sushi and Japanese food as much as me. 😍

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
