Boy do I have sushi and Japanese food on the brain this week. Much thanks goes out to my friend Toni for igniting this latest obsession of mine. I swear, that girl could have sushi for breakfast, lunch AND dinner and still not be sick of it. 😂 My cravings, on the other hand, come in waves and when it comes to Japanese cuisine, I'm not the easiest to please. It's a bit weird considering I am such a foodie and will eat just about anything that won't kill me (#allergyprobs) but I kinda don't wanna eat bad fish either haha. So, taking that into consideration, let me introduce you to my go-to, forever fave Japanese restaurant, Mikado. My family and I have been going here for years and trust nowhere else to satisfy our cravings. Oh and don't you worry, it's picky eater approved LOL.
Mikado Japanese Cuisine
Located in MetroWest and right across the street from another foodie fave of mine (Josie's Pizza & Wings...review coming soon!), Mikado is a quaint little restaurant you'd be silly not to visit. The staff is always so friendly and they put up with my dad's terrible dad jokes with a smile so that's a definite plus LOL. Now that I've turned 21, I've made it my mission to broaden my alcohol horizons. This visit, I tried Plum Rice Wine for the very first time and I've been changed for the better (peep my fellow Wicked fans). If you like sweet dessert wines, you'd love this one. Next on my list is Sake...wish me luck. 😅
As for the main meal, my parents and I decided to go the bento box route simply because it was lunch time and we couldn't pass up on their bomb lunch deal. Bento boxes are great because you get a little bit of everything which is perfect for indecisive people like me who just want to eat everything in sight--yes, I have a problem. 😂 At most Japanese restaurants, your meal will come with a ginger salad and/or soup. Because it was lunchtime, I picked the Miso Soup which is a soybean paste base with seaweed, tofu, and scallions. It tastes so much better than it sounds, I promise. Fun Fact: I am not generally a soup person, especially when I'm sick, but miso soup is my one exception--it always trumps chicken noodle. 💁
