Popular Hip-Hop trio Migos look to continue their reign with the recent release of their third studio album, "Culture II." The album was officially released on January 26th and is the second addition to the Migos’ "Culture" chronology.
The first "Culture" album, which went platinum just months after its release in January 2017, was nominated for “Best Rap Album” at the 2018 Grammys, though it lost to Kendrick Lamar's "Damn.," and it appears that the second will do the same.
Led by their singles, “Motorsport” (with Cardi B and Nicki Minaj), and “Stir Fry”, Migos began to give the world a taste of "Culture II" -- and boy was it big.
“Motorsport” peaked on Billboard’s Hot 100 at number six and released a third single, “Supastars,” not long before releasing the whole "Culture II" album. The album had a long list of big producers like Pharrell, Kanye West, Metro Boomin, and more; Quavo also produced a good amount of the album.
Each track on "Culture II" came together beautifully to create a more unique sound that may form a more clear divide between Migos and the other rappers out today. The album immediately stood out with its intro “Higher We Go” and continued to impress with other tracks like “Narcos,” “Auto Pilot (Huncho On The Beat)” and “Notice Me” (Feat. Post Malone).
"Culture II" was very impressive and that’s not an easy outcome for an album to obtain when you put 24 tracks on it. The tracklist goes:
1. "Higher We Go"
2. "Supastars"
3. "Narcos"
4. "BBO (Bad Bitches Only)" Feat. 21 Savage
5. "Auto Pilot (Huncho on the Beat)"
6. "Walk It Talk It" Feat. Drake
7. "Emoji a Chain"
8. "CC" Feat. Gucci Mane
9. "Stir Fry"
10. "Too Much Jewelry"
11. "Gang Gang"
12. "White Sand" Feat. Travis Scott, Ty Dolla $ign and Big Sean
13. "Crown the Kings"
14. "Flooded"
15. "Beast"
16. "Open It Up"
17. "MotorSport" Feat. Nicki Minaj & Cardi B
18. "Movin' Too Fast"
19. "Work Hard"
20. "Notice Me" Feat. Post Malone
21. "Too Playa" Feat. 2 Chainz
22. "Made Men"
23. "Top Down on da NAWF"
24. "Culture National Anthem (Outro)"
"Culture II" featured beats, flows and rhymes that were much different from previous work released by Migos before. Not only did they get more creative with their music on this album but they rapped outside of their normal so-called “mumble rap” flows.
Perhaps big critics of Migos will finally be satisfied knowing each of the trio’s three members can actually rap. Overall, I’d give "Culture II" a much deserved 4.3 out of five stars. Migos new studio album is out now on Apple and Spotify and a physical release of the album is coming sometime next week.
