Flashback to 2007, a year that a lot of people would probably love to forget. Although, for a certain progressive/alternative rock band, 2007 was the beginning of what would eventually lead them to tens of thousands of fans across the world.

Four guys from San Francisco - Brent Walsh, Ian Pedigo, Chris Hinkley, Blake Dahlinger - officially formed I the Mighty in 2008 and started writing music under that name. To date, I the Mighty has released three studio albums and four EPs. Since the band’s sound changes with each album and EP, the band is a perfect fit for many people who like many different genres - there’s just one issue: a lot of people have not heard of them.

Musical Style

Any I the Mighty fan knows that Coheed and Cambria is a big influence on I the Mighty’s music. Both bands are classified as “progressive," which makes sense with how both the bands incorporate different sounds of different genres into their music.

Hands Like Houses is a band that sounds very similar to I the Mighty in nearly every aspect: from the techno sounds, to the more mellow rock music, fans of Hands Like Houses can definitely appreciate I the Mighty’s style.

Lastly, fans of post-hardcore at least know of the band Dance Gavin Dance, and I the Mighty can be seen as a similar artist to Dance Gavin Dance purely because of the rough sounding vocals both bands use at times.

Personal Recommendations

Since it can be a bit overwhelming getting into a band due to the extensive amount of songs most bands have, I've decided to compile a few songs for people interested in the band that might have certain music tastes.

For the more progressive/experimental music fan:

- A good start might be the newly released Oil in Water EP, which features different versions of songs from the Connector studio album.

- If the EP doesn't whet your palate, it may be advantageous to try "Artful Temptress (Paint Me Senseless)" on Satori, "Cutting Room Floor" on the Karma Never Sleeps EP, "Escalators" on Karma Never Sleeps, "Friends" on Connector, and even "Playing Catch with .22" on Connector.

For the more typical rock fan:

- I the Mighty's core is a more rock sound, so most of their albums and EPs have a variety of rock songs for a more generalized rock audience.

- Some songs to help guide you through the rock parts of I the Mighty would be "The Frame II: Keep Breathing" on Satori, "The Frame III: Sirocco" on Karma Never Sleeps, "Psychomania" on Connector, and "Embers" on Satori.

For the fan that likes faster/harder rock:

- Although not all of I the Mighty's songs have a "harder" rock sound, there are parts of some songs in each album that can be classified as harder or faster rock.

- Some songs to lead you in the general direction of the band's harder/faster songs would be "Adrift" on Connector, "The Hound and the Fox" on Connector, "Speak to Me" on Satori, "A Spoonful of Shallow Makes Your Head an Empty Space" on Satori, and "Failures" on Satori.

For the fan that is open to new styles and sounds:

- This section is includes a list of my favorite songs, but you are obviously free to experiment with any album or song you want!

- "(No) Faith in Fate" on Connector, "Occupatience" on Satori, "These Streets are Alive" on Karma Never Sleeps, "Karma Keepers" on the self-titled EP, and "Love Your Sin" on the Love Your Sin EP.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
