Sure, Michael and Leslie might come off as ditzy and irresponsible as the main characters in our favorite shows. However, they definitely have their moments that make us fall more and more in love with them as they put their friends first, get into all sorts of trouble and inevitably make us laugh until our stomachs hurt. But, do you ever wonder why we might love them so much? I'm starting to think it's because they resemble some of our own parents in these several ways.
They warn us to never give in to peer pressure.
You've all heard this before you go to a party or move into college.
They totally understand our girl drama.
Our moms have been through this, too, so they feel for us.
They have given you the dreaded "talk."
Honestly, you've probably had this talk more than once in your life, and you know that there's no avoiding it.
They still see you as their little baby and will do anything to protect you.
The thought of anyone harming you can instantly turn them into a fighter.
They're always there for your biggest moments in life.
They're our number one fans through the big and small accomplishments in our lives, and for that, we thank them.
They know exactly what to say to make you feel appreciated after a bad day or break-up.
...no matter how weird. In their eyes, you're perfect.
This is what they're thinking when we ask "why?" and they reply, "because I said so."
They know you will hate some of their decisions, but here's the thing — they don't care.
They always know how to keep it real.
Every son and daughter deserves this at some point. Plain and simple.
They'll try to keep up with popular trends amongst your age group and probably fail miserably.
"What do these lyrics even mean?"
"You guys actually talk like that?"
"How do you manage to type that quickly?"
They make you your favorite meals.
This is amazing. Especially when you come home from college and you've just about had it with dining hall food.
They'll push you through difficult times to ensure that you achieve your life goals.
Because Mom and Dad always have your back.
They worry because they love you. It's their job.
Yep. I've even gotten this when I make a quick trip to the grocery store by myself.
So, there you have it.
Through it all, they keep motivating us and making us smile. If you think about it, Michael Scott and Leslie Knope really are a lot like our own parents. Though they sometimes make it their job to embarrass us — they will always be our favorite people. It's no wonder they're so easy to love.
