The Met Gala: Best And Worst

Who was class and who was trash?

The Met Gala: Best And Worst

Last week, the Upper East Side was congested with hordes of eagle-eyed fashion fans, bodyguards, photographers, and celebrities as spectating began for the 2016 Met Gala. Hosted by the perennially fabulous Anna Wintour and--in an unexpected twist--Taylor Swift, the Metropolitan Museum of Art was transformed into a modern marvel of celebrity as everyone who's anyone arrived for dancing and drinks.

The theme of the evening was Manus x Machina, based around the idea of a not-too-distant future and what its fashion might entail. Unsurprisingly, there were several looks--and celebrities--that stirred up controversy, much to the delight of Twitter users everywhere. From Beyoncé’s latex bodycon dress that was compared with a latex product of a different sort, so Lady Gaga's leotard that everyone took to be a symbol of her upcoming album (#BuyLG5OniTunes), everyone had something to talk about. Here, I provide a brief breakdown of what I consider to be the evening's most iconic looks:

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid

A couple so beautiful it physically hurts. The always-dapper Malik showed up with both Gigi and a giant metal...something strapped to his arms. While the look was indeed futuristic, I couldn't help but feel it was a little too on-the-nose. Zayn was that person on Halloween who goes way too far and barrels over the other trick-or-treaters in a mad dash for the most candy. Not the cutest look.

Beyoncé

To me, the most iconic part of Beyoncé’s arrival at the Met Gala was the fact that she showed up utterly alone. Talk about a power move. After the chart-shattering sensation that was her album "Lemonade," Queen Bey proved once again that she was a force to be reckoned with as she arrived with her most powerful ally in tow--herself.

Taylor Swift

The pop princess's outfit for the evening was perhaps the most meme'd of them all, and for good reason. I love a good dramatic look, but poor Swifty looked like someone got a little overeager with the Reynolds wrap. Coupled with her highlighter yellow hair, this was an outfit that should have been left in the closet.
