I used to be this girl... Posting pictures on Instagram almost every hour and deleting them because I didn't have enough likes in the first 30 minutes or it was to "real life"... But I learned to stop that, and you should too.
In today's society, popularity is based on how many followers, likes, and comments you have, and if you want my honest opinion it is total BS. Just because we want to make it look like our life is perfect, we destruct our own mental well being by having that "perfect" social media lifestyle and don't realize it until we spend over 2 hours trying to find the "perfect" selfie and the "perfect caption for your new picture just to get a double tap on a photo.
We constantly look at other peoples feed and think "Oh they have 250 likes" or "Wow they look they are having a great time", but the worst thought that comes to mind is "my own life isn't that fun..." And this is where we are all wrong, we want our image to be so perfect that we end up spending moments that should be unfiltered into moments that are totally gram worthy.
We are so obsessed with comparing ourselves with everyone on our feed, we become blind to all the filters, edits, and fine-tuning, that this one picture you look at for 15 seconds took. Instead, you're drawn into the perfect moment that was captured for the world to see.
Instagram has created such a thirst for perfection and popularity just to boost our confidence for the rest of the night.
I am not saying I'm completely innocent if you scroll through my Instagram, you'll see the highlights of my GNO our a classic football game with my friends, but never the raw and real thing. But honestly, we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to others on this virtual world where our reality is distorted by everyone trying to portray their lives as perfect and something that is truly not.
This relates back to a point I made in a previous article, you're stuck with yourself foreverso might as well love yourself. If you are constantly comparing your black and white life to someones colorful VSCO filter life, you will get nowhere. Make your life "picture perfect" to your own eyes and not everyone else on social media...
So, next time you think about deleting that post, don't do it. Your life is just fine without any filters.
