Many often forget that Memorial Day isn't just that barbecue that you have with friends and family -- it's to salute and remember those who have fought and are fighting for our country.
Every Memorial Day weekend, I travel to upstate New York in the Adirondack Mountains and spend the weekend with my family.
It is a tradition that every year my mom and I hike a different mountain in the Adirondacks over the holiday weekend. This year we hiked Rocky Mountain in Old Forge, New York.
This hike was about a mile round trip, but it was a very steep hike to the 2225-foot summit. Rocky Mountain had amazing views of the surrounding mountains and lakes of the Adirondacks.
It may just be a hike, but it was amazing to get to the top and look at the beautiful free land that we are fortunate enough to have, thanks to the men and women who have fought for it. It makes you realize how truly special Memorial Day and what the holiday is all about.
Thank you to the brave men and women who have given us freedom and continue to fight for our country. You truly make this country great.
