We all know the Oscars. The awards show you either love or you love to hate. Here are the most memorable moments, good and bad, and all entertaining.
1. Walt Disney winning a personalized "Oscar for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
Disney won his tailored award in 1939 for directing the first animated film, and it consisted of one figure surrounded by seven smaller ones. It was a revolutionary moment in animation and cinema in general and marked a huge change in the history of the entertainment industry. For everyone who was experiencing Disney’s magic for the first time, it was truly a magical moment in Oscar’s history

2. Hattie McDaniel being the first ever African-American winner.
In 1940, McDaniel made important history for being the first African-American winner for her role in "Gone With the Wind." It was an incredibly important time in history, and is still relevant today, seeing as controversy still exists over the perceived “whiteness” of the Oscars. This important hallmark was a huge moment in the entertainment industry and for society as well.

3. Barbra Streisand and Katharine Hepburn splitting a win
In 1968, these two legendary actresses made Oscar history by being the first people to split the award for Best Actress--Streisand for her performance in "Funny Girl" and Hepburn for her role in "The Lion in the Winter." However, Streisand was the only one at the awards ceremony, so she accepted for the both of them!

4. Rob Lowe’s disastrous Snow White-themed opening number.
The opening that would have launched a thousand memes in 1989 was just remembered as the performance that kind of wrecked everything. It even ruined the career of the producer, Allan Carr. Whatever, we still love you, Rob Lowe.

5. Angelina Jolie kissing her brother.
We know it was before Brad and everything, but seriously, it’s been 16 years and we still don’t get it

6. Jennifer Lawrence falling on her way up.
America’s sweetheart made herself even more lovable and human when she literally fell on her way up to accept her Oscar for Best Actress at the 2013 Oscars. She was adorable and possibly a little drunk too, but hey, stars are people too. She laughed it off and so did we, because honestly, if it were any of us, we would’ve done that too.7. “Adele Dazeem”
Seriously, was John Travolta okay when he mispronounced Idina Menzel’s name before she took the stage at the 2014 Oscars? The mispronunciation that launched a thousand memes, we still don’t really know what happened here. Maybe it was the teleprompter, maybe it was nerves, but either way, I guess she took a lesson from the hit she sang and truly let it go.
8. Chris Rock addressing the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.
In order to combat the backlash against the Oscars for having a second year in a row with all white nominees, despite strong showings by black actors, directors, and other members of the industry, host Chris Rock decided to totally roast them to show he was not in support, and what a roast it was.
Most quotable moment: "You are damn right Hollywood is racist."

9. LEO WON AN OSCAR!!!
WHAT IS THE INTERNET EVEN GOING TO TALK ABOUT? WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE MEMES ABOUT? WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
But seriously, proud of you Leo, and you know you've made it when they don't even start to music to cut you off because goddammit you deserve that speech time and more.

The Oscars are a Hollywood tradition, and as Hollywood changes, so do these awards shows, so we’ll see how it goes from here. All we know is we to love watching the dresses and the speeches that inevitably get cut off in the middle.
