" Suicide Squad" is a new DC movie that hit theaters Friday August 5, 2016. This action and adventure filled comedy is directed and written by David Ayer. In the movie, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is a government official who wants to assemble a task force of some of the most dangerous super villains in the world to undertake a top secret mission for the government. This team is soon known as the Suicide Squad. The selected members of this team would receive shortened prison sentences and better treatment in exchange for their cooperation. But the government knew that they just couldn't let a bunch of criminals loose, so to keep them contained, Waller implants bombs in each squad member so that if they tried to run, the government could kill them whenever needed. While the Suicide Squad is running around completing missions for the government they must deal with all the antics from the unpredictable Joker, played by Jared Leto. But the real question is, who's on this team of diabolical super-villains?
Harley Quinn
Played by Margot Robbie, Harley Quinn is a crazy, athletic, agile and unpredictable criminal who has devoted her life to pleasing her one and only love, the Joker. In the past she was known as Dr. Harleen Quinzel and was a psychiatrist who worked at Arkham Asylum (a prison for the worst of the worst in Gotham City). After falling madly in love with the Joker when he was one of her patients, Quinzel helped him in his escape from the prison in which he was held. From there, she fled with him and became Harley Quinn only to land herself in Belle Reve prison years later to be recruited for the Suicide Squad.
Deadshot
Played by Will Smith, Deadshot, also known as Floyd Lawton, is a hired assassin and expert marksman whose life wish is to die in spectacular fashion. Although this character is portrayed as highly ruthless villain, Deadshot has quite an emotional backstory. When he was a child, Floyd idolized his older brother. But one day Floyd's mother ordered his older brother to kill his father. To stop all of this, Floyd took a rifle, meaning to shoot the gun out of his brother's hand but instead shot him in the head killing his brother who he loved greatly and saving his father whom he didn't even like. The incident sparked Floyd to become who is he known as today, Deadshot. Later in life he moved to Gotham City for a job but ran into the Dark Knight, better known as Batman. In his plan to take over Gotham City, Deadshot failed and was taken to Belle Reve prison where he was later inducted into the Suicide Squad.
Enchantress
Played by Cara Delevingne, Enchantress, also known as June Moone, is a powerful sorceress who uses her magical abilities for teleportation and healing. By saying the word "Enchantress," Jane has the power to convert from herself into Enchantress whenever she feels needed. However, she sometimes finds herself battling to control the mythical side of her. As of right now it is unknown to me how she came to wind up on Suicide Squad but we do known for sure that she plays a big role in the upcoming movie.
El Diablo
Played by Jay Hernadez, El Diablo, also known as Chato Santana, is a street gangster who has the ability to use pyrokinetic powers. In the past, while trying to collect a debt owed by a couple of gang members, he set fire to a local building not knowing that he was killing an innocent mother and child inside. After this realization, he turned himself in to the authorities and was sent to Belle Reve prison to later be enlisted for the Suicide Squad.
Rick Flag
Played by Joel Kinnaman, Rick Flag is the leader of the infamous Suicide Squad and although he has no super abilities, he is highly skilled and trained by the military. But on occasion he does have some problems with his mental instability, but he tries to use it to his advantage while on his suicide missions. In addition, Rick Flag is not a convicted villain like the majority of his team but he was found by Waller to lead this team and to keep them under control.
Captain Boomerang
Played by Jai Courtney, Captain Boomerang, also known as Digger Harkness, is a vicious thug who grew up in poverty and spent most of his time as a kid designing and creating all different types of boomerangs. Growing up, he was a performer for a toy company but once audiences insulted him, he took his anger and became a ruthless villain of the Flash. After one of his feuds against the Flash, he was locked up for good in Belle Reve prison only to be drafted to become a member of the Suicide Squad.
Killer Croc
Played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Killer Croc, also known as Waylon Jones, is half human and half crocodile. At birth he was a normal child but had a severe case of Epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, which causes one's appearance to change as they grow older (this is what gave him his crocodile like appearance). His reptilian skin acts as an armor and makes him practically indestructible, and he also has special abilities such as super strength, senses, endurance and speed. Although it is unknown to me how he ends up in Belle Reve, we do known that he ends up in this prison to then be recruited for the Suicide Squad.
Katana
Played by Karen Fukuhara, Katana, also known as Tatsu Yamashiro, is a Japanese samurai who wields a sword that captures the souls of the ones it kills which allows her to communicate with these souls. What makes her unique to this team is that she is no super-villain; she is in fact a superhero. Therefore, it is unknown why she is with this team of convicts and it is left as a mystery to be solved once the movie comes out in theaters.
Slipknot
Played by Adam Beach, Slipknot also known as Christopher Weiss, worked at a chemical plant where he developed a formula which created ropes that are stronger than metal. He uses these ropes in several different ways to defend himself against his enemies. After a bad run in with Firestorm (Another DC superhero), he lands himself behind bars at Belle Reve to soon be enlisted into the Suicide Squad.
