Meet the Reporter: The Great Zoom Migration of 2020

Welcome to the eighth installment of 'Meet the Reporter,' or as I like to call it, the optimal time to play "Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)" from the 'Hamilton' soundtrack: PLAY THE CLIP!

As per usual, this is our monthly series where we here at ASU Odyssey want to give you a bit of insight into our lives. This month revolves around the recent changes having come with quarantine. Since I haven't gone through and picked up painting yet, I'm going to talk about my experiences with the new ever-present technological marvel known as Zoom.

There are, of course, a variety of video-call services and apps to help people stay connected to family and friends, but Zoom is the one that really seems to have taken off for most. I hopped onto the Zoom bandwagon for two reasons: everyone I knew was already installing the app (which made things more convenient) and my phone doesn't support group FaceTime (which made things less convenient).

There's already been plenty of shenanigans with people of Zoom in the two months since the pandemic, but I can safely say that my experience hasn't been that bad with it. I love being able to meet up with all my groups of friends without having to worry about system crashes. Sure, the audio dynamics aren't great, the time limits (and general setup structure) can be quite annoying, and some of the recent security concerns that have been brought up are at least a bit worrying.

Nonetheless, I am, by my own admittance, a tech noob with no sense of nuance, and Zoom's set-up is probably a lot more complex than myself and my loved ones have been using it for. However, I will add that I sincerely miss person-to-person conversations (not including my work) and that might wind up being the thing I miss the most coming out of this pandemic.

I guess I can sum up my experiences with Zoom as doing what you can to stay connected with the people you care about and, please, WASH YOUR HANDS!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
