You Matter, Better Believe It

Every person in their life has a day where they just feel down or they feel like nothing is going right and they ought to just go back to bed and never leave its coziness. The problem is that people never know what to do when they feel this sense of loss. It's a sense of loss in yourself almost, questioning who you are as a person, where you're going in life, who you'll spend the rest of your life with, or what your next big move is going to be in order to win that job you're dying to have. All of these things happen daily, and who knows why. It could be simply from spilling coffee on yourself that morning and feeling like it's all going down hill after that, or your alarm not going off and being late to work, or even just having one of those days where everything said to you sounds like an insult or downer.

The thing to remember is that we are all human. We all have our own insecurities and imperfections, we all want to be better at something, and we all feel lost sometimes. This does NOT mean that you as a person are going to be defeated in whatever it is that is bothering you. We need to realize that each day is given to you for a reason. When someone says something rude to you, just know that his/her one opinion does not define who you are. You define who you are!

Life is all about challenges. Taking risks is the only way to achieve all your goals. Accepting, as hard as it may be, your flaws is the only way you'll be able to grow as a person. Flaws are all apart of being human, so don't let those drag you in the dirt. When you're feeling extra defeated, try to stop and think. Think about everything you have accomplished regardless of this bad day. Think about all the lives you have impacted whether it was a simple smile to someone or a forward service toward another person. Think about all you have been through and how much stronger you are that you've made it past your breaking points before, and that you can make it past those again.

An important thing to remember on these bad days is that you matter. You matter to your family, friends, significant others, classmates, and your whole community. There is a purpose for each and every person out there to be true to themselves and to be the best they can be. All of you are intelligent. You're strong. You're meaningful. You're important. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Life is full of challenges and life is full of mountains that you'll have to climb, but will that stop you from getting to the top? I hope not. Believe in yourself, that's the most important thing to remember. Be known for your smile towards others, be known for your kindness, be known for your charisma. Be known for something that makes you proud.

Being yourself is the best person you can be. As Golda Meir once said, "Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
