In every age of humanity, humans possess the power to make a perennial imprint that will be recognized throughout history. Posterity remembers based on the legend left behind from its predecessors; so, as young people gearing up to control the future, what do we want to be remembered for?
As humans have coursed through history, we have developed an incredible ability to shape our environments, both physically and psychologically.
In order for us to shape our world, we must first refine ourselves. Individually, we determine the inputs into our lives, therefore controlling its outputs. What we let in becomes us and then we regurgitate in new form as we fabricate the outside world.
We live in a unique time, unlike previous ages of humanity, because we have the advantage to sift through all facets of the world and choose, for ourselves, what we allow into our minds. Immediate accessibility to information allows us to explore new tastes from billions of sub-communities across our enormous population. Technology and the Internet have shrunk the distances that have traditionally restrained us, allowing us to experience everything the world offers. We should receive comfort in knowing that we always have a communal connection with someone, despite our planet's size.
We have control over the information we are exposed to, but, more importantly, we have the power to accept or disregard its validity. Our dissatisfaction with an idea or belief prompts us to seek out alternatives by exploring information systems to test whether we should accept or reject an idea. We do not have to settle for what immediately presents itself because we have the liberty to explore extensively until we are convinced.
On a societal scale, humans have the ability to construct the world to our liking. Our choices are reflected in how the world appears, so we should be cognizant of what our creations say. Technology has allowed us to breathe life into our ideas, fusing the imaginative and physical world into a magnificent concoction of beauty and ingenuity. We are becoming increasingly less restrained by technological abilities and are thinning the line between practical and impossible. This grants us tremendous liberty for where may focus our abilities. But as we become the creators of our environments we must be aware of the impact our inputs have on future decisions. Not all outcomes are certain, but if we reflect on how these inputs might affect us, we may learn to understand to weight our choices carry.
Choose carefully what you allow into your mind, because you are reshaping it for the world around you and giving it back, whether you realize it now or not.
