Want to know what St.Patrick’s day is like at the Taylor’s house, the most Irish family in my neighborhood? I’ll give you a little glimpse, which will never fully portray the grand celebration that St. Patrick’s Day is at my household. St.Patrick’s day is spending the night before, March 16th helping dad roll out and stuff the dough of his strudel with peach, cherry, apple, and pineapple filling. He makes enough for his work, our dinner, the neighbors, and for us to eat weeks later. March 17th St.Patrick’s day is waking up and having your dad say Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you as if it was Christmas or my birthday. My dad dresses in all green and never goes to work empty handed, he always makes sure that everyone gets to enjoy his famous strudel. Most years I did have school on St.Patrick’s day, so I did have to go to school, but it did mean getting to wear green because I did to go to high school in a predominantly Irish neighborhood. Coming home from school meant being greeted at the door by the aroma of cabbage, corn beef, and soda bread. Mom was always in the kitchen preparing for the meal that night that was never short of fantastic, with her elbows deep in flour and Celtic music playing in the background. She was always pleased when we got home because that meant she would have even more help to prepare the scones, soda bread, corn beef, cabbage, and dad’s strudel. Dinner was amazing, but I always loved when dad came home with his leftover Slyman's corn beef sandwich, it was like a sneak peak at what mom was preparing for us. Of course the leftovers were for mom, but I always made sure to get my share. Dad would then jump in to finish preparing the corn beef as people started to arrive for this grand celebration. You see it was never just my family for St.Patrick’s day; this was a meal that we shared with many others. This was not a meal that could possibly be prepared by one person, it was a lot like Thanksgiving we all did our share of the work to make this dinner truly grand. Even though the food was amazing, I always loved having all the people over at our house every year. Now with me in college it was even more special because it meant catching up with people that I may not have seen since I was home for Christmas. Since my family is so busy now a days, we have since moved our celebration to the Sunday after St. Patrick’s Day, which doesn’t make it any less than grand, it just assures that everyone can participate in this grand celebration. Out of all the holidays that we celebrate as a family, this by far is one of my favorites because it really goes back to where are roots are and brings everyone together as a family. This is a holiday that I know will always be an important part of my life and will always have a special place in my heart. This for sure is the one holiday that you will defiantly not see pasta on our menu, but any other day of course we’re having pasta. Here’s to surviving this week so that I can celebrate St.Patrick’s day with good food, and even better company.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
