Music festivals bring people together across the world for the love of music. Whether you’re in the United States or in Europe, there is most likely a music festival near you once a year. Chicago is home to three major music festivals including Spring Awakening, Mamby on the Beach, and Lollapalooza. Each festival is unique in their own ways but Mamby has to be my favorite. The festival takes place at Oakwood Beach in Chicago which makes everything so much better. Last year was my first time attending and it was a blast. There’s nothing better than music on a beach and some good vibes.
On March 15th, React Presents announced their 2-day lineup for Mamby on the Beach. Both days offer a variety of music for festival goers to enjoy! Mamby never fails to bring out incredibly talented artists, especially from Chicago.
Saturday kicks off on June 23rd and you don’t want to miss it! My favorite part of Saturday’s line up is the Save Money crew that will be there. KAMI and Towkio will both be performing! This is KAMI’s first festival performance as a solo act which is a huge milestone. Towkio just released his album “WWW.” which was released from space. Towkio traveled 100,000 feet into space to listen to the album and release it thereafter. Along with some of the Save Money crew, Chicago’s very own Common will be headlining Saturday at Mamby on the Beach.
If you’re a fan of Chicago hip-hop, Saturday is the day for you. Common will put on a great performance for his beloved Chicago family. I’m very excited to see AJR perform, an indie pop band from New York. AJR is made up of three brothers who produce, write and mix all of their material which is not the norm in today’s music world. In addition to the artists mentioned, Saturday at Mamby will also feature sounds for all music lovers.
Sunday keeps the momentum going and will feature some artists with a lot of buzz around their name right now. Chicago’s very own, Whethan, will perform and kill it like he always does. He just released a new track on March 16th titled “Be With You” and we can expect more music by the time Mamby comes around. OVO’s Roy Wood$ will be hitting the stage on Sunday as well. He signed to Drake’s label back in 2015 and has an undeniably unique sound. Cold War Kids will headline Sunday along with Russ. Cold War Kids will bring their indie rock style to the beach and rock out.
Mamby will most likely be heard from the other side of the city when Russ performs.
Last year at Lollapalooza, Russ had the festival in the palm of his hands. He might face a lot of criticism on the internet but his music is catchy as can be. His fanbase goes hard for him and they will be showing up at Mamby for sure. You can expect every word to be sung by the audience.
Mamby on the Beach is going to be filled with good vibes like it is every year. Tickets are currently on sale on their site. You definitely do not want to miss out on this festival! There’s a wide variety of artists and genres, especially the fresh Chicago sounds. Don’t sleep on the tickets!
