It's that time of year again. Temperatures are rising, the snow is melting... and Firefly news is flying. That's right, the Firefly Music Festival is back on the radar. After the Firefly lineup dropped, festival goers everywhere have risen from their winter naps and are planning their next Firefly experience.
America's favorite music festival is under criticism for posting a lineup that is seemingly stacked with male artist and boy bands. Some may say the lack of female artists at Firefly is offensive, yet I don't think the gender of the artist at Firefly is as important about the lineup launch.
The fact that Firefly has been able to deliver a lineup full to the brim with talent is what's most important, and here are eight male artists you should be excited to see this June at the Woodlands.
Eminem
After years of waiting, Eminem has come out of the shadows and back to center stage. More importantly, the Firefly 'Main Stage.' Although Slim's appearance may have been anticipated, fans everywhere are still freaking out over his summer tour. Eminem's known to bring his all to his performances, which is why he's the perfect pick to headline Firefly.
Arctic Monkeys
The last time these guys have been seen on stage was in 2012, and Monkey fans everywhere are freaking out. Unlike the other headliners, 'Arctic Monkeys' hasn't released an album recently... In fact, it's been five years since their album, "AM", hit the market. This could mean two things: 1. The Arctic Monkeys may be releasing music before Firefly. 2. Their Firefly performance is going to be a one of a kind show... okay that one is actually a guarantee.
Kendrick Lamar
Okay guilty, I have Kendrick's entire album, "DAMN", downloaded onto my phone and have not listened to anything else since I saw he was headlining Firefly. Seeing his name on the lineup was kind of a surprise, which makes a Firefly ticket a hot commodity for Kendrick fans.Traditionally, Firefly is known to have headliners that are punk, alternative, and rock. But with Kendrick headlining, it gives the festival a whole new feel.
Lil Wayne
It's every 2000s baby's dream to see '6 Foot 7 Foot' live. This year at Firefly, your dream may come true. Seeing Lil Wayne live is something everyone has on their bucket list. It'll be interesting to see if Wayne will bring out any other Firefly artists to perform their songs live. I know if Eminem and Lil Wayne performed 'Forever' together my life would be complete... how about you?
The Killers
Back at it again on the Main Stage, 'The Killers' return to the Woodlands with new music to perform. If you happened to be at Firefly in 2015, you get to see them perform twice! If you weren't lucky enough to be there then, now is your time. They have delivered a stellar performance at Firefly before, so I don't doubt this year they will outdo the past.
Logic
What a year Logic has had. It's a no-brainer that he's heading to the Woodlands to perform hits from his new album "Everybody." After his performance of '1-800-273-8255' at the VMA's, Logic has become an icon for suicide awareness and has gained popularity for engaging the media in this conversation. With tons of old and new music to play, you won't want to miss Logic's Firefly performance.
Vance Joy
Vance Joy's music is completely different than the award-winning rappers mentioned above but that's what makes his appearance at Firefly important. His set will be the one people will sit on the lawn and chill out at under the summer sun. Vance Joy's music is uplifting, calming and much needed in the Woodlands.
Foster The People
Another returning artist, 'Foster The People' will surely feature a laid-back set. One of the great things about Firefly is that the lineup is stacked head to toe, which is where Foster The People come in. With two very popular albums out, 'Sacred Hearts Club' and 'Torches', this indie pop band will fill the woodlands with the sweet sounds of summer we all love kicking back to.
