So, like many of you absolutely lovely people, I am THRIVING with this color pop bold lipstick trend. I have always been someone who thought I couldn't wear lip color because I didn't know what I was doing. But, now with this matte liquid lipstick trend, it is a million times easier to apply lipstick and really stand out! Nothing gives me confidence like knowing I have a dark purple lipstick on in the middle of the day, and I'm OWNING it. Here is a review of six lipsticks and two lip liners.
1. Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink (Believer)
I will be the first to say, this lipstick is more than disappointing. I had extremely high hopes for this lipstick as the ads for it show amazing smooth matte lips, but once I put it on it is stickier than molasses, and its coverage is slim to none. It just globs and smears and once I finally get it to cover my whole lips, it looks gappy and sticky and feels gross. Also, it is extremely hard to remove. while most lipsticks will come off with a gentle swipe of a makeup wipe, this lipstick will barely budge! 2/10.
2. Elf Day to Night (The Best Berries)
This lipstick has two berry colored lipsticks with the presumption of just switching to the darker color at night instead of having to remove and switch to another lipstick completely. I just blotted the lighter pink away until it was barely leaving a mark on a napkin and then applied the amazing purple-hued red on top. I LOVE this shade of red because it's finally one I can wear confidently. I have always had the trouble of reds looking hot pink on me. The formula of this lipstick is ah-maze-ing! It is smooth and soft and makes my lips feel moisturized, unlike most other $3 lipsticks! 9/10.
3. Elf Liquid Matte Lipstick (Blushing Rose)
This lipstick was the one that started it all. It is a light pinkish brown that dries quickly and looks amazing. I feel like my best self with this creamy lip plumping lip shade. The only downside to this amazing work of the beauty world is that it is extremely dry, and as probably many of you I deal with ultra dry lips in the winter no matter how many tubes of chapstick I go through. 8/10
4. Elf Liquid Matte Lipstick (Vampy Violet)
This is a slightly different formula than the blushing rose shade, it is much more liquid than cream. That being said, it glides on and has excellent coverage for a $5 matte liquid! It looks very black on camera but it is actually just a deep violet and it ROCKS. 9/10
5.& 6. Wet n' Wild Velvet Matte (color unknown) (Charred Cherry)
I enjoy this lip color, it glides on very smooth and has a nice pink tint. I don't care much for the packaging though. The bottom piece with the color name fell out, and the color of the stick does not match the color of the lipstick at all. Also, the lip trapped the lipstick and it took me forever to get it out and fix it after that. I have another darker pink in this lip color as well, but the packaging stayed together. Overall, this lip color feels and looks great but is not long wearing, and the packaging is misconstruing. 5/10
7. Lip Liner:
I have two lip liners I used with these looks, Maybelline Colorsensasional in magnetic mauve, and Rimmel London moisture renew in transparent. I only used the maybelline with one of the Wet n Wild colors, because the pencil itself breaks very easily, so I had to keep it twisted out very low and push hard to get the color to show up. The color itself is gorgeous, but the application isn't worth the work, or the $8. The second one I tried is by far my favorite ever. It is versatile, smooth, and creates the moist lips of an angel.
That's all I've got for today, I hoped you enjoyed getting to know my opinion on these lipsticks! All of these are available at Walmart and Target.
