Makeup is something every girl experiments with at some point in her life. From the blue eye shadow to the glittery hot pink lipgloss, we've all been there. For me, I have loved makeup since I was in the 6th grade. Going to the drug store and picking out the girliest eye shadows I could find was my favorite thing to do! Wet 'n Wild was a brand I could count on for bright shadow colors like this:

Eye shadow was always my thing. Once I started, I couldn't stop. One taste was not enough. I started experimenting with eyeliners, too. Of course I couldn't just try black liner, I had to try it all! Good thing I was young and real makeup experts couldn't really judge me because of my age. After regular liner came liquid liner, and then mascara of all colors.
When I got a little older and I finally got ahold of how to do my makeup in a semi normal way, I wanted even more. I wanted to start using big people makeup. You know, the stuff you don't get from the drug store. The stuff you have to go to Sephora or Ulta or the Macy's cosmetics counters for.
My first time in Sephora was incredible. I immediately fell in love with the scents, sounds, and mass amounts of products from so many different brands of makeup I had never seen of or heard about before. As I started shopping around, the price increase stunned me, but I would come to learn that there are just some things that you can't match. Sephora would become my mothership. My go to place for makeup to this day. I'm currently a VIP Rouge (Very Important Beauty, Rouge status) which means I'm a member of their beauty insider program. For every dollar you spend they give you a point. You can get different free gifts for every 100 points, 500 points, etc. or you can save up your points for other things! Rouge status is the highest level of VIP status you can get. Clearly, as you can see, I'm not messing around when it comes to makeup!
My current obsession is highlighting and contouring. Though it's a far way away from my 6th grade drug store eye shadow obsession (which I've mastered the art of) I've learned to perfect and adopt new skills and tricks to make each day wearing makeup something new. If I want to wear the same colors form the same eye shadow palette (which I do quite often) I now know how to make it look completely different just by using a different shadow brush or by putting those colors in different places.
So, highlighting and contouring. Highlighting is *fairly* simple. Cheekbones, along top of the nose, and in the tear duct of your eye will get the job done. If you want a more advanced highlight, you need to learn those sneaky little tricks like right under the brow. Contouring is slightly more difficult. Under the cheekbones, sides of the nose, hairline, and above brows over the temples is what I do on a day to day basis. The sneaky little tricks are out there for anyone who wants more. You can use anything from a shimmery or matte white/light pink eye shadow to highlight and even just some bronzer to contour. If you want to get more advanced, my favorite highlighting tool is currently Bobbi Brown's shimmer brick in Pink Quartz. For my contour, I like to use Sephora's bronzing powder in Los Cabos.
Makeup is all about experimentation and what makes you feel great! Something that looks good on one person might not be good for you, and that's ok! That just means you get to go experiment with different products and find something perfect for yourself. Once you get involved with makeup, you'll fall in love. Everything from what you can find at your local drug store to what you can find in your local Sephora serves its purpose, and I'm sure that just by testing different things you'll be able to find the perfect products to give you that perfect look!
