Women and girls today wear makeup for many different reasons. Some people wear it to feel refreshed and alive. Others use it to cover up facial marks, like wrinkles or scars. Many use it as a creative outlet for self-expression, and some just find joy in putting it on every day. For me, all of these apply (no pun intended), but I have one more reason as to why I wear makeup. This is a reason some women are ashamed and embarrassed to admit, but makeup, in fact, helps me feel more beautiful, and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
First, let me say this; I do not think that I am ugly without makeup on. I am well aware that God has blessed me with beauty, as He has done for all humans. I do not NEED makeup to tell me I’m pretty, but I have no shame in admitting that having it on does help me feel more put-together. Makeup, for me, simply serves as a reminder that I am beautiful human being. When I look at my makeup-less face in the mirror, I see beauty. What makeup does for me, however, is emphasize that beauty. For example, I have green eyes. I love having green eyes because not a lot of people do and it makes me feel special and unique. Using certain shades of eyeshadow, a little bit of eyeliner, and mascara of course, helps make the shades of green in my eyes pop out. Another physical feature I like about myself is my smile. Wearing certain shades of lipstick helps emphasize and broaden my smile. Although I am not ashamed of how I look without makeup, emphasizing these features with makeup does give me a little boost in confidence, and reminds me that I am truly a beautiful girl.
I want all women to know that you are beautiful with and without makeup on your face! No woman should feel as if she has to wear makeup because she isn’t pretty without it, but there is nothing wrong with putting on some makeup to help recognize your beauty and help you feel more confident. Sure, sometimes we use makeup to cover up a few things things, but it should not act as a mask to completely hide one’s face. God made us all beautiful individuals, and makeup is his assistant; when we apply it to our skin, He is reminding us of the beauty He sees in us. After I put my makeup on everyday, He says something that sounds like; “See? You are beautiful! I tried to tell you before. Now do you believe me?”
