Many people seem to believe that makeup makes one fake or look fake, but I really admire people who can do makeup really well. I also admire people who have the energy to do a full face of makeup as well. Most people who know me know how much I love wearing makeup and watching makeup videos.
Even though most makeup videos are ten to fifteen minutes long, it definitely does not take that little time to do a full face of makeup. Especially if the makeup look is a holiday or dramatic look.
I used to be really good at doing winged eyeliner because I did it every day. Now I have to sit down and think if I have thirty minutes to attempt to do a winged eyeliner look.
When I watch people do a winged look now I get jealous and think how someone can do winged eyeliner without having to start over at least twice. I also lack my eyeshadow skills because I do not know how to blend eyeshadow.
But for makeup artists who know how to make any color blend and not look too outrageous, I applaud you. I wish I could do eye makeup that well.
Even watching shows like faceoff shows that many of the fantasy shows and movies we love to watch have a lot of work put into them by the makeup department. Makeup artists also have to worry about their makeup lasting, lighting, and the type of makeup they need to use. Even the everyday actors we watch on tv wouldn't look as good as they do all the time without the help of makeup artists.
I personally think the reason most people overlook the power of makeup is because it's a feminized activity. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with things being feminine, but in our society, there is a negative connotation associated with it.
Hopefully, as we move forward, the art of makeup will be admired as the hard work it is and makeup artists can have the same respect as other types of artists.
