The black and white sign, rays of heaven shining down on the doorway, angels singing in the background. Yup, you walked past a Sephora, and they have a new display in the window that takes your hand and pulls you in. Every girl knows this feeling; our wallets know this feeling, making our bank accounts cry in mercy. I want to help you and your bank account by showing you some makeup dupes that are probably better quality than the high-end products.
Let’s start with face product dupes. Usually I like my high-end foundations and BB creams, but when I find a product that is practically the same and cheaper, it's amazing.
The Kat Von D Lock it Tattoo Foundation ($35) vs. Rimmel London Stay Matte Mousse Foundation ($10, depending on where you shop)
The similarities are that they are both matte and full coverage, and they both have a light-weight, mousse texture. The differences (because there will always be differences) is that the Kat Von D foundation will last you all day long and control your oils. The Rimmel foundation only lasts about four to six hours, and doesn’t control your oils as much. But with a good primer and setting spray, it does last a lot longer.
bareMinerals Complexion Rescue ($29) vs. NYX Cosmetics BB Cream ($12.99)
These are both BB creams, which have fuller coverage than a tinted moisturizer but not as full as a foundation. Their texture is like very thick moisturizer. For BB creams, both have really good coverage. The bareMinerals is a gel cream, unlike the NYX BB cream. Both are great for oil-free to combo skin types.
Moving onto eye makeup dupes: I would take drugstore eye products over many different high-end products, but here are some of my favorites.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz ($21) vs. NYX Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil ($9.99)
These two products can easily get your eyebrows on fleek. Both of these brow pencils are very thin and waxy. The waxiness helps when you run a spoolie through to blend. The Anastasia Brow Wiz and the Micro Brow Pencil are both very similar, and the only difference is that the Brow Wiz has 12 shades and the Micro Brow Pencil has eight; and the price is obviously very different.
MAC Dazzlelights ($16) vs. L'ORÉAL Infallible Eye Shadow Iced Latte ($7.99)
These two shades are shimmery, champagne shades. Both eye shadows are highly pigmented and creamy, so they're easy to blend and sweep across your eye on a lazy day. Both of these shadows bring light to your eyes. The only difference between the two is that the L'ORÉAL Infallible shadow is a pressed pigment and has 18 different shades, while the MAC shadow is a pressed powder and there are 131 different shades. Price-wise there's only a small difference, but it is a difference (you can use that extra few bucks to get a coffee).
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Requiem ($20) vs. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Trap ($6 plus shipping, depending where you live)
A matte lip is all the rage right now, but trying to find the right one that doesn’t dry out your lips is hard. But these two products are long-wearing and very pigmented. The two colors are both a soft purpley/pinky with a bit of a gray undertone. These two lippies are very similar, and it's hard to find a difference, other than the price. So, why get the $20 one when you can get the $6 one, and save $14 bucks?
So now when you pass a Sephora, you can walk right past it. Your wallet won’t be crying as much, and you'll still look flawless.
