The Power of Positivity

Make Today a Great Day

Why does it seem like the older we get, the sadder we get? A lot of people argue that it's because we become more aware of ourselves and the world around us. There is a certain trend of always complaining that "you're tired", "stressed", or just "giving up on school." This loss of creativity, loss of imagination, loss of hope -- I refuse to partake in it. Sure, there is a lot of bad happening in the world. While we shouldn't ignore the mistakes and the traumas that happen, we shouldn't ignore the good either.

There are amazing things happening all over the world. Technological advances, scientific breakthroughs, little acts of kindness, happening every day. I don't know why we tend to focus on the bad, but I do know it is time for a new way of thinking. A new wave of positivity.

Positive thinking is a simple way to improve your day. YouTuber, Markemiller is known for his positivity and joyous perspective on life. He begins every video with "Today's gonna be a great day. Do you know why? Because every day's a great day!" I admire his perspective on the world and it has inspired me to rethink the way I go about life. Little things annoy me and things don't always go they're planned, but that's no excuse for me to believe that life is terrible.

I am extremely lucky to live the life I live. Sure, I have to`commute over an hour to get to school, and will have a load of student loans when I graduate, but I love going the college I go to. I am making my dreams come true and anything is worth it if it's something you love and are passionate about. Too often do I take my life for granted. I am going to try to change that, to always remember to appreciate everything I have and to spread that positivity forwards.

I am also very grateful to have friends and family who continuously love and support me. This past year I have realized the importance of who we surround ourselves with, who we choose to call our friends. And I have realized that I love my friends. They make me laugh and always believe in me. We should all surround ourselves with people who lift us up. How can life be that terrible when you have such amazing people to share it with?

We don't have to ignore the bad things that happen in the world, but we should try to use positive thoughts and actions to improve the world. Start with appreciating your own life and then spread that positivity outward. And remember, everyday is a great day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
