Even if you didn’t watch the ‘Farewell Season’ of American Idol, you’ve probably heard of MacKenzie Bourg. This guy made it into the top 4 on American Idol, but was sent home and is still continuing his singing career. At the beginning of the season many people, (myself included) saw him audition with his cute hipster glasses and his gorgeously white smile. From receiving his golden ticket to Hollywood he kept climbing his way to the top. Once he made it into the top 24, I knew he was going to be good. Each week I made sure I voted because his performances were amazing, he could change a song so much to sound like his style. Even when he changed the tempo or the melody, MacKenzie was still able to get the emotion from the song. Once we got into the the top ten each person was stepping up their game with each performance. All of the contestants tested their limits and their range, but MacKenzie still managed to capture the hearts of everyone. Into the top five everyone watching knew that the competition was getting more and more intense, and the judges were firing out more critic-like comments.
Then during the top four episode, when the card was read and Mackenzie’s name wasn’t called, I lost it. I had a mix of emotions, between sadness and anger. I wasn’t sure which emotion would win the battle. So, he walked off the stage and said goodbye to the fans that have been supporting him the whole way through. The next weeks followed with more heart break, losing more people I enjoyed watching. Finally, at the finale they crowned Trent Harmon the winner of the ‘Farewell Season’.
So you are probably like, what is your point? Well, even though MacKenzie didn’t win American Idol his music career has taken off in such a positive direction. He recorded his single ‘Roses’ and made it to #1 on the Singer Songwriter category on iTunes, and #5 overall. After seeing how big of a hit the single was he handmade 100 shirts with the song name and his own take of a rose. He is so dedicated to his fans that he tweets everyday how appreciative he is of everyone in the #MackPack. MacKenzie Bourg is a special kind that hasn’t let the fame get to his head, he hass remained humble and true to himself and his music. I think the fact that he didn’t win allows him to show the country and honestly the world, that he can be just as successful coming 4th as those that have won in the past. I’m eager to hear his album when it’s released, and I’m hoping to hear when he will be going on tour.
So when ever you hear, MacKenzie Bourg, on the radio I hope everyone thinks of his pearly whites, his unique style, and his heavenly voice.
