A Love Letter To Netflix

“Hey mom and dad, how did you meet? Well, back in the day, your dad invited me over to Netflix and chill.”

A Love Letter To Netflix

Dear Netflix,

Before I start this, I would like to thank Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph. If it weren’t for these two, I wouldn’t be able to write this letter. I wouldn’t be able to have a love for Netflix and write this letter if they didn’t come up with the wonderful idea. Netflix, thank you for being there when nobody else is. When none of my friends are able to hang out, you are always there. When I’m feeling sick or upset that I didn’t do well on a test, you are always a few clicks away and able to be there for me whenever I need it. If I’m going through a problem, you’re the fastest solution. I don’t need to wait for a reply from a friend, I just click away watch my show I’m in the middle of and make myself feel better.

Or if I just need something to do while I am being way too lazy to do anything, you’re always there. Grab a snack and just lay in bed watching some of my favorite shows. There are plenty of times when you come in the clutch. Like procrastinating at 10 p.m. when an assignment is due at 11:59 p.m.. Watching shows in the library makes me feel like I’m doing homework and studying, so thank you for that as well. “I’ll take a break and watch an episode of X show and then go back to my work.”

You can also be used as a motivator for doing homework. For example, “When I finish this assignment, I can take a break and watch a few episodes.” However, most of the time it just ends up being 1 a.m. and you miss the deadline for you homework assignment or miss out on studying. But for me, watching Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute always beats doing a statistics homework any day of the week. Whenever I don’t know what to do, my mind immediately goes to watching the show I am in the middle of.

Many people would like to thank you for the modern term “Netflix and chill.” The guys with no game with the ladies would love to give you a big, special shout-out. Forget about having game with a girl, just invite them over to watch a show on Netflix and one thing leads to another. Forget about needing to figure out a first date, you can just watch Netflix and call it a date! In the modern day world, Netflix and Chill could end up starting relationships. But, forget all of those other people; this is about my love for you.

I have been really lucky to have you this past year, and for that I am forever thankful. Roses are red; violets are blue, Netflix thanks for being you.

Forever and always,

Josh

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
