Last month, I received a Facebook memory on my news feed. This was what I got from 3 years ago. I wrote this Facebook status when I was 16 years old.
In my opinion, love stories are just focused on a couple who meet, fall in love, separate for a while after a fight, make up, and eventually get married or do not end up together. From my experience of reading books and watching movies, I came to a certain point at a young age, in which I believed that love is not limited to couples.
Love involves family and friends as well. Love does not have to be about romance. Love is not only reserved for romance. However, it is for family and friends who love each other better than lovers.
When I was in high school, some of the girls regarded Romeo and Juliet as one of the most romantic stories of all time. I, on the other hand, did not agree. That was not a story about love at all. I don't even agree with their fates in the slightest. Fate does not entirely play a role in love.
People still have choices to make when it comes to love. If Romeo and Juliet was really a story about love, then they both would have made better choices-- instead they took the easy way out.
Stories about love involve what love really is. This includes trust, time, appreciation, acceptance, and support. Love is much stronger than hate.
I view The Passion of the Christ as a story about love. This movie depicts the brutal beating and death of Jesus Christ. Despite all of this, he went through all of the pain and suffering just to save us all from our sins. A true depiction of His love for us.
That, is the difference between love stories and stories about love. Romeo and Juliet have all of the elements of a love story, but that does not make it the perfect depiction of a story about love. Jesus, in The Passion of Christ, perfectly shows the power and characteristics of love.
