John Legend released the music video to his song Love Me Now on Friday morning.
This music video is by far one of the most beautiful music videos created in our generation.
I mean, it helps that John has a voice like butter, but this music video is something unlike anything I've ever seen.
Most videos these days have to do with lust, power, and money. You could probably look up a song that you think is about family and somehow the music video makes it about money.
The video opens with four places in the world: Northern Iraq; Orlando, Florida; Dominican Republic; and Standing Rock Reservation, North Dakota.
Now, each of these places have seen sadness, hopelessness and fear.
The message of the song is that you don't know when your life will end, so love it with all you have until it's gone.
This message struck a chord with me.
Instead of making a video of John Legend seducing a random woman (who is clearly not his wife), he brings his wife and newborn daughter, Luna, into the picture. This is something that I'm sure is very under-appreciated and often looked over.
This statement showed the importance of family to John Legend, and I have so much more respect for him now because of that.
In each of the places in the music video, there were images of couples and families.
Even in very bleak and desperate times, these people abroad rely on each other love themselves with all they have.
You'd see children running around in rubble of what may have been a home, and you see couples laying on a bed inside a small hut. You don't see sad faces; you see smiles.
In times like now, a video like this, as insignificant and small it may seem at first, brings people to a deeper understanding of how important peace and love are.
I think Legend's message was no matter who you are, where you're from, or what you're interests are, love is what will get everyone through even the most darkest of days.
